ALCHEMY is an artist-led international residency exploring the common themes between artistic practice and the growing, cooking and sharing of food in community settings. Since 2017, this residency has taken place in rural Hillier, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada, during the harvest season. More than 100 artists from around the world have joined us in our explorations.
ALCHEMY 2024 plans to host 8-10 artists for two weeks. Participating artists may:
Pursue studio work, likely in a local community public space.
Offer a (paid) community artist talk, workshop or demonstration.
Participate in Open Studio events during the Residency.
Be paired with a local artist, winery or farm to consider work in situ.
Two long-time collaborators will program Alchemy’s 2024 initiatives. Claire M Tallarico is a visual artist and trained chef whose social practice explores how the everyday activities of artmaking and food sharing can contribute to the well-being of artists and further community engagement for a community and its citizens. Tonia Di Risio is a visual artist whose work has developed through ongoing investigations of the growing, making, preserving, celebrating, and sharing of food.
Artists who wish to live in a community setting while creating art and sharing meals are encouraged to apply. Applications must include an artist's CV, an artist statement, a letter of intent, and images/from the artist's website. The accommodation (shared or single), programming, and coordination fee are between $1050 and $1150 in Canadian fees per artist. Bursary and Artist fees info will be posted on our web site, when available.
