WHAT TO EXPECT

With more than 55 attendees from across the US (and Canada and Uruguay and Israel!) at the Institute, we look forward to an energizing and engaging time. The agenda is jam-packed, but we have also built in time for questions and conversations, off-site visits to a variety of arts programs, parties, and opportunities to meet artists and arts leaders. We hope you'll leave the Institute with one of the most important resources - each other! - and that you’ll continue to offer one another advice, ideas, and support as you develop your plans in the future.

With so many attendees, there won't be time for lengthy introductions about each program at the start of the Institute, so practice your 30-second "elevator speech" and you’ll have a chance to hone it during our time together!

ABOUT OUR HOST

Halcyon - devoted to the power of human creativity - is an incredible powerhouse of programming: Halcyon Incubator, Halcyon Stage, Halcyon Dialogue and Halcyon Arts Lab - a newly launched nine-month residency fellowship, providing support and resources to emerging artists as they work to promote social impact and grow as leaders. We’ll learn more about their work at the opening reception, and also when we go on a tour of their building, Halcyon Arts Lab @ the Fillmore School, which is in the process of rehab construction.

Halcyon is located in a residential neighborhood so we ask that you be mindful of the neighbors, particularly when arriving in the morning. The building does not have signage, however it is clearly marked as 3400 Prospect St NW. Here is an image of the front of the building so you know that you’re in the right place!

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Nonprofit 101 day offers a chance for small-group learning about the basics of starting a nonprofit organization. We've selected a range of topics to cover as an introductory overview and we are excited to work with Montressa L. Washington, PhD, nonprofit management and sustainability expert, to offer this training. With less than 25 attendees, you'll have a whole day to learn and share with your peers. At the end of the Nonprofit 101 day, we'll join together with the other Institute attendees for food and drink at Halcyon. Then on Wednesday, we launch the 2-day Emerging Program Institute!

With more than 55 attendees from across the US (and Canada and Uruguay and Israel!) at the Institute, we look forward to an energizing and engaging time. The agenda is jam-packed, but we have also built in time for questions and conversations, off-site visits to a variety of arts programs, a block party, and opportunities to meet artists and arts leaders. We hope you'll leave the Institute with one of the most important resources -- each other! -- and that you'll continue to offer one another advice, ideas, and support as you develop your plans in the future.
