ARTS/INDUSTRY Studio Internship | John Michael Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan WI)

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex, is seeking an Arts/Industry Studio Intern for the summer. Since 1974, the Arts Center has sponsored Arts/Industry, a residency program that makes the industrial materials and processes of Kohler Co. available to artists for two- to six-month residencies. Arts/Industry Studio Interns work closely with the Arts/Industry Program Manager and Pottery and Foundry Technicians in the daily operations of the program. Arts/Industry Interns must strictly adhere to all safety and procedural standards of Kohler Co. and show respect and deference to Kohler Co. associates.

Interns are allowed studio space, access to Kohler Co. facilities and materials, and the opportunity to develop their own work outside of the required 30 hours of program assistance per week.


  • Assist Pottery and/or Foundry Technicians with studio work
  • Assist Resident Artists with individual projects
  • Participate in factory tours and educational outreach
  • Clean and maintain studio areas
  • Assist Arts/Industry Program Manager with artist orientation and accommodation
  • Other duties as needed           


  • Currently pursuing or have completed a degree in studio art, preferably in ceramics or cast metal work
  • Experience making ceramic or metal sculpture using materials and processes such as sand plaster and/or pep-set molds, foundry casting, metalsmithing, plaster modeling, wood and resin pattern-making, and slip-casting
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Summer 2017 Internship Dates
June 5–August 25, 2017 (may be flexible)
40 hours a week, includes some nights and weekends
