Industries Director | AS220 (Providence, RI)

AS220 Industries provides affordable access to resources and educational experiences in wide range of artistic disciplines including printmaking, digital fabrication, photography and media arts. The Industries seeks to foster a diverse community of artists and makers.

The AS220 Industries Director is a 40hrs/week position. Deadline to apply: April 30, 2018

The AS220 Industries Director's primary responsibility is to oversee programmatic offerings, ensuring they are are affordable and relevant to meeting demands of artists, members and students while maintaining and growing the financial sustainability of the Industries Program. The Industries Director (40 hours/week) manages staff, including the Community Membership Manager, Facilities Coordinator and Open Hardware Community Manager as direct reports.

In addition to higher level programmatic oversight, the Industries Director is also directly responsible for managing educational programming. Educational offerings include regularly offered workshops, one-on-one instruction, private workshops, and educational activities held during special events. The Industries Director is expected to work with staff and instructors to develop new educational offerings based on interest and demand. Working with the members Education Committee and Instructors, the Industries Director will strive to refine pedagogy in the various artistic mediums supported by the space.

Ongoing education related duties include instructor recruitment, training and support, and workshop registration management. The Industries Director will be expected to work with the Communications Director to develop digital and print materials that present workshop participants with a well rounded curriculum and clear potential tracks for those looking to developing projects, further artistic knowledge, and experience community.

The Industries Director should have both big picture thinking and management skills with an eye for attention to detail. An background in education is required as is an in-depth understanding of at least one area of the Industries core artistic disciplines. Candidates should have a willingness to learn about a broad range of artistic mediums. The Industries Director will report to the Managing Director.

Specific Responsibilities:

Visioning:
Lead visioning and long-term planning for Industries
Engage in professional development as needed to build knowledge, understanding relevant skills
Work with Industry staff to foster, manage, maintain, grow relationships and gather input with:
Industries Members
AS220 Staff, residents, and community
Providence community
Non-profit organizations, businesses, colleges, and schools

Administrative:
Manage the Industries’ budget and work toward the financial sustainability of the program in conjunction with the Managing Director
Manage the Industries staff schedules
Schedule and run weekly Industries staff meetings
Delegate, oversee and document general administration of the program

Management:
Supervise and support Community Membership Manager, Facilities Coordinator and Open Hardware Community Manager
Supervise temporary contract staff and ensure interns are properly supervised
Oversee roles, responsibility and work-flow of staff

Cross Program Collaboration:
Communicate relevant programmatic information via email, phone, and in-person to all-staff, the development and admin teams
Work with the Communications Director on Industries marketing and communications
Work with Development team on grant applications and fundraising efforts
Work with IT Director on computer system and network infrastructure
Work with Property Management on space issues, problems, and inquiries
Collaborate with other AS220 Staff and departments on special events and other initiatives as needed

Instructor Engagement:
Collaborate with Member Education Committee
Work with staff and instructors to develop new or special class offerings
Actively recruit instructors in collaboration with Human Relations Manager
Standardize workshop procedures for instructors (including prep and follow up)
Develop and coordinate instructor trainings and professional development offerings
Collect and publish relevant open source syllabi
Submit instructor check requests

Managing Workshop Offerings:
Create and standardize schedule of regular core-curriculum classes
Create and publish full curriculum and suggested student tracks
Work with Communications Director to promote workshops on the Industries website, via email and social media
Manage workshop registration and rosters and update internal calendar
Create workshop material/supply kits for core-workshops offerings

Data and Analytics:
Create and Manage distribution and collection of student evaluations
Track and report workshop enrollment and income
Analyze enrollment and survey data to inform workshop offerings

Special Programming and Partnerships:
Collaborate with Youth Studios staff on youth workshops
Work with partner organizations to coordinate private and offsite workshops as requested
Collaborate with the Community Membership Manager on educational programming for special events

Compensation:

AS220 has an equal pay policy: all non-profit staff are paid $18.50 per hour with benefits, including health care for full-time staff, generous and flexible paid time off, and opportunities for professional development.
