Marketing Communications Coordinator | Bedford Gallery (Walnut Creek, CA)

24 hours/week

Tues/Thurs/Fri and occasional evening and weekends

$27/hour

The Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, CA is looking for an experienced, energetic individual for a part-time position as a Gallery Marketing Communications Coordinator.  This position will work closely with the Curator of Exhibitions and Programs and Assistant Curator assisting with the production and promotion of the gallery exhibitions. A flexible schedule is preferred.

Position Responsibilities:

  • E-news: using Mail Chimp  to draft, design, and send monthly e-newsletter
  • Bg Blog: produce bi weekly blog posts on Bedford website (draft, design, post)
  • Compile material for other newsletters produced by the City of Walnut Creek
  • Update Bedford Gallery website
  • Oversee advertising campaigns (printed publications / social media)
    • Write and distribute press releases and maintain press lists
    • Copy editing
    • Participate in gallery programs onsite & offsite (may involve weekend and evening hours)
    • Manages Social Media (FB, Twitter, IG)
    • Assist with Photography: School tours, openings, artwork/exhibition
    • Assist with volunteers
    • Assist with exhibition research, juried exhibitions & public programming
    • Work with Curator and Assistant Curator to oversee Craft Fest: annual indie pop up shop
    • Writing: (press releases, grants, docent notes/exhibition guides/catalogs, newsletters)
    • Graphic design work (flyers, cards, catalogs, education guides, advertisements)
      • Gallery Operations:
        • Assist with opening gallery for public (lights, turn on media artworks, open cash drawer).
        • Meet with volunteer at beginning of their shift to answer questions and review POS system if needed.
        • Close out cash drawer at end of day and assist with gallery lock up.
        • Answer main gallery phone line and email when needed

 

The Ideal Candidate Demonstrates:

  • Knowledge of and interest in contemporary artists, art world trends, art movements, and new media
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Meets deadlines
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with Bedford Gallery and Lesher Center staff, City employees and officials, and the public
  • Experience with social media
  • An eye for graphic design
  • Ability to work well collaboratively with a team and learn on the job

Computer skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Adobe: Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Acrobat
  • Mail Chimp or similar program

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in fine arts, arts administration, art education, art history, business, marketing or a related field of study; and a minimum of two years’ experience in community arts programming, museum education, arts instruction, or performing arts production is preferred.

About the Bedford Gallery:

Bedford Gallery exhibits the work of contemporary artists, local, national, and internationally. The Gallery is dedicated to providing the public with opportunities to learn about visual arts through public programs that are varied, accessible, challenging, and educational. Its mission is to provide exhibitions and other programs that both reflect and engage the diverse audiences of the entire Contra Costa region.

The Gallery organizes and presents four to five exhibitions each year. In addition, we offer lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and many other kinds of public programs. Gallery docents give tours that include hands-on art projects to over 2,000 school children each year, in addition to tours for seniors and adult groups. The approximately sixty volunteer members of the Bedford Gallery Docent Council receive professional training in both art history and teaching techniques. The Bedford Gallery Guild, a volunteer group of 55 members, staffs the reception desk every day, hosts receptions and other special events, and produces annual fundraising events.

The Bedford Gallery is a program of the City of Walnut Creek's Department of Arts + Recreation and is overseen by the Arts Commission. The Diablo Regional Arts Association, a private non-profit tax-exempt organization, provides vital financial and volunteer enrichment for the Bedford Gallery and other cultural services programs
