Resident Program and Operations Manager | Aunt Karen’s Farm (Mt. Vision, NY)

Program & Operations Manager (starting early 2019)
A year-round, part-time resident Program & Operations Manager is sought. Responsibilities of the position include developing programs, cultivating professional affiliations and alliances, generating visibility, and increasing contributed and earned revenue in support of this vital center committed to new creative work and sustainable agricultural practice. The individual will also coordinate space usage, host guests, and assist the Founder in a range of administrative and operational tasks.

Overview of Aunt Karen’s Farm and the AKF Foundation
Created in 1988, Aunt Karen’s Farm (AKF) is a multi-disciplinary, multi-generational organization which provides a quiet space for the development of new creative work and an environmentally sustainable agricultural program. Participants include solo artists, families, small companies and educators. The Farm is located in Central NY and sits within the culturally rich and recreationally diverse Otsego County, 180 miles northwest of New York City; just 15 miles from Cooperstown’s attractions including the Museums, Glimmerglass Festival and the Baseball Hall of Fame; 12 miles from the Colleges in Oneonta; and 1 mile from Gilbert Lake State Park.

The AKF Foundation was established to broaden opportunities for artists, administrators, educators and environmentalists. Currently, Aunt Karen’s Farm maintains 112 acres of rural property including open fields, wooded areas and wetlands, as well as four residential facilities and three studios. The farm has been used as a quiet writers’ retreat, an incubator space for the development of new works, a location for institutional planning and educational programs. The Farm is affiliated with SUNY Cobleskill to create a practicum farming program.

Ideal Candidate
A highly motivated, entrepreneurial, self-starting individual who enjoys working with artists/educators/farmers and who appreciates a rural lifestyle.
Education: Bachelor’s degree, with master’s degree, preferred
Experience: Administrative leadership at an institution working directly with artists and/or other creative individuals, possibly within an arts or cultural organization, farmer’s cooperative, etc.
Skills: A broad range of skills ranging from practical computer skills and administrative abilities to long-range institutional planning and development; highly organized with a strong capacity for follow through a must.

Hours, Compensation, Housing
The position requires an average of 20 hours per week with a variable schedule and has the potential to develop into a full-time position as programming and fundraising continue to advance.

Compensation: The Program and Operations Manager will be paid $1,500 per month ($18,000 per calendar year), plus provided free housing in the lower level apartment of a duplex. The apartment has a living/dining room, full kitchen, two bedrooms, office space, laundry room, and a two-car garage. The Manager will have access to studios and other facilities as available.

For the appropriately qualified candidate, SUNY-Cobleskill offers the opportunity of a part-time adjunct faculty position, with competitive compensation and health insurance. Additional part-time employment opportunities in the immediate area include Glimmerglass Festival, Fenimore Art Museum, Farmer’s Museum, Hartwick College and SUNY Oneonta, among others.
