Supporting artists in their creative practice is what residency programs do best, and what the Alliance does best is advocate for and support the field as a collective voice, knowing there are things the Alliance can accomplish that no single residency program can do on its own. For example: partnering with funders to provide grants to residencies in the US and abroad; bringing together national and international leaders to develop strategies for comprehensive support of today's artists; and providing consolidated information resources to artists on the wealth of residency opportunities available to them.
The Alliance includes more than 250 members—a diverse field of artists’ communities, residency programs, individuals, and institutions that support living artists in the creation of new work—from across the US and in more than a dozen countries worldwide, with budgets ranging from $8,000 to $4 million. The Alliance offers memberships for established and emerging residency programs, for other institutions committed to supporting artists, and to individuals who believe in the work of this field. Visit our Membership page for a full description of membership categories and eligibility.
The Alliance advocates for its members to funders, policy-makers, and others; provides its members with research and other information on everything from facilities planning to salaries to funding sources to providing hospitality; offers its members a vital peer network; promotes its members to tens of thousands of artists of all disciplines; and connects its members to funding sources in the US and internationally. All members receive discounts on publications and conference registrations, invitations to special events, and receipt of our newsletter and e-news bulletins. In addition, many of the Alliance's partner organizations offer discounts to Alliance members. Visit our Membership page for a full description of member benefits.
