3Arts Deepens its Support to Artists

Since 2008, 3Arts has distributed more than $840,000 to Chicago's women artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities through its awards, residency fellowship, and project support programs.

Recognizing the pressing need for risk-taking creativity and boundary-breaking human expression, 3Arts has expanded and deepened its programs every year. In 2009 they doubled the number of annual $15,000 awards from six to twelve. In 2010 they added Teaching Artists to the awards program. In 2011 they launched 3AP to support artists' projects. And in 2012 3Arts added dance to their awards program."We consider it our civic duty and a privilege to champion local artists and invest in the essential creative process that drives their art forth and touches all of us, in every corner of our community," says 3Arts' executive director Esther Grimm. "That creative energy is the foundation on which the future will be built."

3ARTS ARTIST PROJECTS (3AP) allows everyone to invest directly in the art and careers of Chicago artists. Similar to Kickstarter, 3AP gives artists a platform for developing grassroots support for their projects. 3Arts does not charge a service fee to artists and 3Arts will match up to 1/3 of each project's funding goal. "This is our way of helping great projects see the light of day," says Esther. "It's also our way of introducing our community to some of Chicago’s most brilliant artists among us."
