AS220 Immersive Residency for Artists/Managers

"The AS220 Immersive Residency reminded me why I do this impossible work and who I am in relation to the work. Hearing the stories of my cohort and the incredible staff at AS220 reignited my passion and reaffirmed that we’re not in this alone." 2015 Attendee

For 30 years, AS220 has been a living example of innovation in non-profit arts programming, youth programming, and community development.  Growing from a small grassroots collective, AS220 has built a sustainable large-scale organization that now serves as an international model.

AS220 is an unjuried, uncensored forum for any and all Rhode Island artists to share their original artwork, embracing the full spectrum of the arts: theatre, dance, poetry, photography, music, printmaking, creative “hacking”, painting, and beyond.  AS220 builds collaborative community by providing affordable access to tools, technology, space and educational opportunities.

During the AS220 Immersive Residency for Artists/Managers (AIR/AM), participants will learn from both AS220 and other practitioners, and reflect on how their own decision making provides opportunities for others in the arts.  AIR/AM recognizes artists/managers as anyone who works in the arts regardless of position.  From arts managers, arts educators, socially engaged artists and program coordinators to community organizers, arts researchers, cultural producers and more, AIR/AM seeks to bring together a diverse group of practitioners in a fertile environment to share and learn from each other.  Residency program activities include a series of workshops; presentations by participants, staff and visiting faculty; tours of partner arts organizations, a hands-on making session; and, of course, a party!  Workshops will involve working sessions, bringing theoretical discourse into the practical realm.  Tuition cost is $500.

“The AS220 Immersive Residency reminded me why I do this impossible work and who I am in relation to the work. Hearing the stories of my cohort and the incredible staff at AS220 reignited my passion and reaffirmed that we’re not in this alone.  Practically, the program taught me a ton about the stuff you always want to know but never ask.  Plus I got to sneak a look behind the scenes at the inner workings of a great arts organization.  Now, stop reading this testimony and just apply!” — Paul Margrave, Marketing & Box Office Coordinator, Brown University, Providence, RI / Spring 2016 Immersive Residency participant
