Bemis Center Expands Residency Program

"It is our goal to consistently exceed expectations and live up to our reputation as a leader in the field of artist communities." Mark Masuoka, Executive Director, Bemis Center

The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is excited to announce the addition of 12 new annual fellowships to its world-class residency program located in downtown Omaha, NE. By increasing the annual number of residencies from 24 to 36 - a 50 percent expansion - the Bemis Center is better equipped to meet escalating demand. Last year, over 1,000 artists applied to the Bemis Center's residency program and more are expected this year. The deadline for applications is now September 30.

This expansion has been made possible by the completion of five brand-new studios and renovation of 8,000 sq. ft. of dedicated project space. The Center is currently putting the finishing touches on its completely refurbished Okada Sculpture and Ceramics Facility. This 10,000 sq. ft. studio space will allow artists to fabricate large-scale sculptures in one of the finest sculpture and ceramics facilities in the country.

Since 1981, over 600 artists from all over the world have experienced the Bemis Center's residency program. These artists have not only created outstanding work, they have created something more important - an indelible legacy of artists supporting artists.

"It is our goal to consistently exceed expectations and live up to our reputation as a leader in the field of artist communities," Masuoka said. "This is truly an exciting moment in the history of the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts."
