Red Gate Residency Spot Opens for September (Beijing, China)

Due to a cancellation, Red Gate Residency is now accepting applications from artists, scholars, and creative people across all disciplines for a one-month residency in downtown Beijing in September.

September is one of the best months to be in Beijing. Comfortably cool, the art scene is in full swing with the art academies in session and galleries returned from summer break.

Red Gate Residency provides artists, curators, writers, academics, and creative people across disciplines with the opportunity to live and work in China. In September, we have one self-contained apartment available in Tuanjiehu, a neighborhood in the heart of Beijing next to the embassy district, a short subway ride to the independent art spaces in Beijing’s historical hutong neighborhoods and an ideal location for exploring the city. Red Gate helps all participants connect with the contemporary art scene, meet local Chinese artists, and source materials. We provide the necessary support and encouragement to help residents get the most out of their experience and make their time in Beijing productive and enjoyable. Residents are invited to all Red Gate Gallery events at the historic Ming Dynasty Watchtower.

The residency program includes:

  • Living/working space
  • Airport pickup
  • Welcome dinner
  • Artist talks
  • Open studios event

Residents are responsible for:

  • Program fee
  • Visa fees
  • Airfare
  • Living expenses
  • Materials costs

Deadline: August 22nd, 11:59PM China Standard Time

About: Red Gate Residency is a not-for-profit program under the care of Red Gate Gallery, mainland China’s earliest private gallery, founded in 1991 by Australian Brian Wallace. Red Gate Residency is an international artist residency program, providing artists, curators, writers, and academics with the opportunity to live and create work in China. Its objective is to provide facilities for artists to easily start their projects and offer a community in which they can participate as much as they like.
