100 West grants artists and writers residencies to create work in this historic building repurposed for studio space. Large scale, light filled rooms are provided alongside complete living accommodations and wood shop access to produce work in two or three dimension, installation, or writing. This residency experience is enriched by artist-made furniture and antiques in a building virtually unaltered since the 1890s. Original mill work, light fixtures, painted doors and walls now cracked and worn remain amid three years of preservation work, and effectively contrast contemporary modes of art making. 100W maintains a close connection with Dallas art culture less than an hour away from downtown Corsicana, where faded vestiges of the nineteenth century oil boom make it quintessentially Texas.
Artists and writers coming to Corsicana escape compact, urban centers to make work without distraction. It's quiet here. Long hours are clocked in the studio with a focus stimulated by small-town atmosphere and big, open windows. 100W hosts three to five residents simultaneously with private work-live studios balanced with a shared kitchen, dining hall and rooftop.
Funded and non-funded studio residencies are available alongside local grants.
Two fully funded, 6-week residencies are offered to one artist and one writer between January - May, and October - December 2017. 100W takes a Summer hiatus June – September.
Artists and writers choosing to cover residency costs themselves may apply at anytime, but are encouraged to submit before the September 15, 2016 deadline to secure their preferred time of residency in 2017. Residency durations are customizable from 2 weeks to 2 months, although a minimum of 1 month is recommended to reach studio rhythm and produce in-depth work.
