Cykaida Arts Center (CAC)

The Cykaida Arts Center (CAC) is a year round residency program for U.S. and International artists in the mediums of letterpress, bookbinding, printmaking, installation, textile and performance art. Writers are also welcome to participate in the center. CAC is for artists to develop portfolios; prepare artwork for exhibits or fellowships; transition from undergraduate school to graduate school; or need a place to concentrate on getting back to the creative process of art making after having been away from creating for a period of time.

Residency housing is located outside of the center and will provide private bedroom, shared kitchen, bath, living room and dining area.

Cykaida Arts Center (CAC) is located in Hastings, NE a town of approximately 25,000 people, with flat lands, big skies and variable weather patterns. In rural Nebraska agriculture is the primary occupation however, many towns located throughout the state bring other cultures and the arts into their communities. Hastings has a growing artist community and a world-renowned 4-year private liberal arts college. There are many beautiful parks, a biking/walking path weaving through several miles of town and through a nearby recreational lake. During the warm months there are artist walks once a month, farmers markets on Saturdays, outdoor performances, parades, and other local events to bring interest to Hastings. CAC is located within walking distance from the downtown (approx. 3 blocks), which has art galleries, local bakery with homemade breads and other delicious desserts, an excellent Mexican restaurant, wine bar and brew pub. There is also a coffee bar with free Wi-Fi internet access, a cozy bookstore next door, and a yoga studio. Located near CAC is a grocery store and pharmacy (approximately 1 block away) as well as, a hospital and emergency services.

Residency Fees

FEES As an emerging center, the current fee is per residency is $1,400 per month($350 non-refundable security deposit), 2,800 for a two month residency ($500 non-refundable security deposit) and $3,200 for a three month residency ($500 non-refundable security deposit) – this includes studio space, residential space, as well as extended instructional assistance, visiting artist demonstrations/talks and open studio evening for a chance to share your artwork with the community. Stipends / other support

Hughes Fellowship is offering $650 per month to help with housing and some materials costs.

Additional expectations / opportunities

All artists are required to participate in a one month evening of conversation consisting of open studios, artist’s talks, performances, and presentations, followed by a dinner discussion in the residency house. Additionally, the Cykaida Arts Center facilitates demonstrations and artist talks and optional one-on-one studio visits with professional artists.
