The Hermitage Artist Retreat

The Hermitage provides 3- to 6-week multidisciplinary residencies for mid-career artists. It is located on 8.5 acres of beach on Florida's Gulf Coast, and has been created out of 5 restored historic buildings restored into living space and studio space for its artists. All Hermitage residencies are curated.

The Hermitage sits on Manasota Key, a barrier island across Lemon Bay from Englewood, Florida. Englewood is about 35 miles south of Sarasota on the Florida Gulf Coast.

Eligibility

  • Application type: Application not available (residency by nomination or invitation only)
  • Geography: Open to US artists, Open to non-US artists
  • Additional eligibility information: 

    Two competitive residencies are available annually to Sarasota County artists only - one to a visual artist and the other to a writer or composer. These are available through the Sarasota County Arts Council. All other residencies are by nomination/invitation only.

  • Housing: Private housing (individual apartment/cabin/house), Private bedroom in a shared housing facility
  • Meals: Residents make own meals/groceries provided
    We expect to be providing meals in the near future.
  • Computer/internet access: Computer and internet connection provided in common area (shared), Wireless Internet
  • Accessibility: housing/grounds/studios are accessible
    Living quarters are wheelchair accessible.
  • Studios/special equipment: Music studio (non-recording), Painting
  • Additional studio information: 
    We are currently adding more studio capacity in the digital realm and will adjust this category when they become available.
