Located on a scenic farm near Chicago and Lake Michigan, Taleamor Park hosts 2-week and longer residencies for artists seeking quiet time and ample space. The co-directors seek to create a loving, esthetic, and respectful atmosphere that balances needs for creative solitude and for community.
There is a simple online application form due 6 weeks before the start of the month of the proposed residency, but later applications will be considered whenever space remains. However, assistantship applications for any 2017 date are due February 14, 2017.
The 2017 season runs from April through October, but flexibly scheduled, off-season residencies are available November through April. Off-season applications are welcome anytime, preferably by January 14, 2017.
On the first Saturday, there will be a welcome orientation and a simple vegetarian meal provided by Taleamor Park. After that, residents are responsible for the cost and preparation of their own meals. There is one potluck weekly involving both residents and hosts. Taleamor will provide some staples as well as garden vegetables in season.
Each week residents will contribute two hours of work to help maintain and enhance the gardens and buildings of Taleamor Park. On the last Thursday of each session, Taleamor Park will host a public reception so that residents may share their work in open studios, readings, lectures, exhibitions, and/or performances.
Fees follow a sliding scale according to need and preference. Tier 1, which is $490 per week, covers our short-term costs plus contributes to our long-term expenses. Tier 2, which is $420 per week, covers our immediate costs. Tier 3, which is $350 per week, is a subsidized rate for those with significant financial need. The weekly cost of three-week and longer or off-season residencies is slightly reduced.
One assistantship is available per month for those with experience in building maintenance and construction, gardening and groundskeeping, park planning, or book and image cataloging. Assistants contribute 12-15 hours of work weekly, pay only a $100 deposit fee, and provide their own meals.
Taleamor Park will pick up residents at transport hubs in Michigan City and South Bend and provide transportation for grocery shopping.
