The Cultural Services Director is strategically positioned to ensure Fort Collins continues to be recognized as a destination arts, culture, and creative community with robust and diverse cultural offerings. The Director provides leadership to Cultural Services programs, events, and facilities that include visual and performing arts, public art, public gardens, and museum services. The Cultural Services Director represents the City in matters relating to The Lincoln Center, the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, the Community Center for Creativity (Historic Carnegie Building), The Gardens on Spring Creek, the Art in Public Places Program, the Cultural Community Program, and the Fort Fund Grant Program.
As a member of the Community Services leadership team, the Cultural Services Director actively partners with colleagues in Natural Areas, Parks, Parks Planning and Development, and Recreation to ensure holistic, authentic, and accessible experiences across Fort Collins. The Director collaborates with staff in the development and implementation of short- and long-range plans and departmental goals and objectives. This position prepares the departmental budget and reviews and analyzes programs, operations, and associated costs to ensure alignment with stated objectives and progress toward future needs. The Director also oversees contracts with booking agents and performers for City-sponsored shows, series, and major exhibitions.
The Cultural Services Director is a strategic, systems thinker who easily sees the big picture and long-term vision for Cultural Services. The Director believes arts, culture, and creativity are essential to the health and well-being of a community and that residents should have access to lifelong learning through the arts. The Director is a forward-thinking, business-minded leader who thoughtfully considers the business needs that support a thriving arts and culture economy. The successful candidate is politically savvy and understands the importance of relationships and partnerships at all levels. A human-centered leader, the Cultural Services Director leads and empowers staff, promoting a culture that embraces change for the better.
Desired qualifications:
At least six years of progressively responsible arts, entertainment, and cultural programming experience is required. Strong leadership and management skills are essential. A strong financial background with prior experience developing and managing a budget is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Facility Management, Fine Arts Administration, Business Administration, or Public Administration is required. An equivalent combination of experience and education that enables success as the Cultural Services Director will be considered.
