2023 Writers Residency

Associated Residency Program

January 11 - 25, 2023  or  October 11 - 25, 2023

Seven accomplished writers will join the Writers Residency program at Franconia Sculpture Park in 2023. Writers span a range of arts-focused disciplines and will receive a stipend, full room & board, and a two-week residency at the 50-acre outdoor sculpture park. Writers will immerse themselves in the new environment and embrace the time and space to move forward in their work. Residents with an interest or practice in art writing will have the possibility to publish a piece with Mn Artists, the Walker Museum’s platform for interdisciplinary arts writing. Writers are invited to participate in an online public reading.

Additional Eligibility Information

FEES 

  • A $25 non-refundable application fee is due at the time of application submission via the Submittable application platform. 
  • The fee is waived for the first two weeks (June 1 – June 15).
  • Alumni pay a reduced application fee of $15. 
  • Applicants must pay a fee for each residency they apply for. 
  • Collaboratives of two submit one application and pay one fee.
  • Collaborators may attend together to work on a shared project – we are unable to provide additional stipends to collaborators.

WORK SAMPLES

  • Curators should submit up to two pages of exhibition text. 
  • Scholars should submit a published journal article.
  • Arts writers should submit a published review or article.
  • Fiction + Non-Fiction writers should submit 5 pages.
  • Poets should submit two poems.
  • Text-based samples should be submitted in .pdf format
  • Works in progress are allowed. 

APPLICATION REVIEW

  1. After you submit your application at Submittable.comyou will receive an email confirming your submission. 
  2. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of arts professionals that may include artists, curators, academics, and critics and one Franconia staff member to represent organizational knowledge of the site and resources. The panel will be directed to consider a diversity of lived experiences and practices to represent the park.
  3. The application panel will create a top-ranking artist pool.
