Crosstown Arts offers residencies in an urban setting to visiting and Memphis-based artists working in any creative discipline, including visual arts music, filmmaking, and writing in all genres. Residencies include private studio workspace, lodging (if needed, access to Shared Art Making and free access to various Crosstown Arts events including music shows and movie screenings. This program is embedded within a larger arts organization that also programs and operates 6000 square feet of gallery space, a music venue, a 419-seat black-box theater, a maker space, and a bar.
Live/work residencies include either a microunit with a private bedroom/bathroom near a common living area and kitchen or a free standing studio house for musicians. Several but not all of the housing options are accessible and the Crosstown Concourse where Crosstown Arts is located is ADA compliant. All residencies are offered at no cost to participants, who are responsible for a $200 refundable deposit, covering their own studio materials, and travel expenses to and from Memphis.
Residents are asked to participate in a limited number of public engagement activities such as informal artist talks (all sessions) and open studio events (3 month or longer sessions).
Anyone 21 years of age or older is welcome to apply. There are no specific project requirements for accepted residents who are encouraged to experiment and explore new ideas or further develop current work already in process.
