Opera in the 21st Century 2023

Opera at Banff Centre is a performance-based, collaborative training experience for emerging opera professionals that truly challenges the conventions of opera performance, production, and design. The focus is to develop early career opera professionals with the skills and experience to take them to the next level of their careers in an evolving industry.

In 2023, Banff Centre is excited to announce multi-disciplinary programs, one of them taking place at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa for Module 1 and all culminating in an additional 3 weeks of programming at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity for Module 2.

Opera in the 21st Century: Don Giovanni

Singers, Director, & Repetiteur

Module 1: June 5-17, 2023 | National Arts Centre, Ottawa

Module 2: July 3 - 22, 2023 | Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity

This program offers a unique opportunity for 7 singers, a director, and repetiteur to attend both modules to work with and learn from artists specializing in a range of areas including design, creation, composition, and production. Participants will join a cast of career principal artists at the National Arts Centre Ottawa and prepare the roles needed for Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the National Arts Centre Orchestra. They will then remount the semi-staged production at the Banff Centre later that summer whilst also workshopping and presenting a musical read-through of a new opera Adoration as part of the ensemble.
