South Porch Artists Residency is a retreat space for working artists, scholars and clergy to pursue creative projects. Located on an historic property in downtown Summerville, South Carolina, South Porch immerses residents in the evocative setting of a small Southern town, just half an hour from downtown Charleston. Up to six residents at a time are offered comfortable lodgings and studio work space, either in our 1835 Main House or contemporary Cottage Studio. Residents apply for stays of one, two, three or four weeks, arriving and departing on a Monday. For more information see our website: www.southporchartists.org
We believe that artists, writers, scholars and clergy – while often undervalued – provide essential services to our community, and to each of us as human beings. They uncover the universe, reveal our common humanity, expose injustice, point to reconciliation, and nurture our hearts, minds and spirits. Our mission is to support the essential work of these makers and thinkers by offering them dedicated space, time and community, and to enrich the people of the Lowcountry and our residents through personal and cultural exchange. At South Porch we are guided by the values of inclusion, community, caring and creativity.
Artists and thinkers, ages 21+, ranging from emerging to established and working in variety of genres are welcome to apply.
