ART-14 Residency Program

Patton, PA, United States

The ART-14 Residency, in conjunction with the L.a. Studio community’s art outreach and programming, was founded in 2023 as a haven for artists looking for a comfortable, collaborative, and creative space to explore their art and concentrate on their projects, while our local community simultaneously benefits from the activity at L.a. Studio.

We are located in the renovated St. Mary’s School building (constructed in 1912), which features 12-foot high ceilings and large 7-foot windows, with plenty of natural daylight and spacious workspaces for various artistic disciplines. Artists have 24h access to designated studio spaces including ceramics, stained glass, woodworking, and 3D printing/laser engraving equipment, as well as tons of open studio space for painting, sculpting, writing/composing, research, recording, and whatever else our artists can dream. Residents reside in newly renovated apartments conveniently located above the studios, on the second floor. Private rooms are available with shared access to kitchens, bathrooms, laundry, and a fully equipped gym. Find more information on our website (lastudio.org)!

Additional Eligibility Information

Our application is open on a rolling basis, year-round, for residencies of a minimum stay of 2 weeks. Residency and scholarship applications are reviewed systematically by our selection committee and artists are notified within 14 days. If you have not heard from us, please feel free to reach out. Our goal is to accommodate as many artists as possible as will contribute to and benefit from the creative and community-oriented spirit of our program and therefore do not have any major eligibility requirements.

That being said, we prefer applicants are ages 21+, as one of our team members makes wine and will sometimes share it with our residents. We have no restrictions on nationality and are happy to support all applicants with visa invitation letters, though unfortunately haven’t had a ton of success with our prior letters of support. Of note, due to the historic nature of our facilities, we are not ADA accessible and there are stairs to access the building.

Artists can find more information and apply on our website! (https://www.lastudio.org/art14-residency/residency)

Common/Communal Spaces Information

Artists all have their own bedrooms, distributed between two furnished apartments on the floor above the main studio spaces. Each apartment has a full bath and fully equipped kitchen. Artists provide their own food, and there are several restaurants, bars, and groceries within walking distance of L.a. Studio. Anyone hoping to accompany resident artists should also complete an application, as we expect anyone staying with us to influence, contribute to, and commit themselves to the creative environment we hope to curate as part of the ART14 Residency. Per our responsibility to create a comfortable living arrangement for all guests and artists accessing shared facilities, additional occupants looking to share any of the suite bedrooms will incur a 50% additional charge per extra person. We are unfortunately not ADA accessible. We do not allow pets.

Studios/Facilities Details

Two large, open-concept and modular studio spaces are located on the primary floor of L.a. Studio. One side is equipped with ceramics equipment (3 throwing wheels, kiln, glazing/finishing spaces, counter space), stained glass equipment, and 3D printing/laser engraving, and the other side is equipped with easels/desk spaces separated by large, mobile partitions (approx. 6x8') finished with cork for pin-ups. There is a woodshop in the basement of the building. We are looking to install a dark room in the basement for film development, and hoping to expand our textile and screen printing equipment soon.
