Craigardan

Craigardan is a residency program and community educational center with a focus on the studio, agricultural, culinary, and intellectual arts. Although clay is at our core, the residencies are open-ended and place-based by design. We welcome all project proposals and encourage multi- and inter-disciplinary thinking. Here, the term "artist-in-residence" includes visual artists, scholars, writers, chefs, and agriculturalists.

It is an intimate program, with a maximum of ten artists-in-residence at any one time. Participants live in one of our elegantly simple houses: the historic Farmhouse, the timber frame Studiohouse, or the midcentury modern Hillhouse. Each has comfortable shared living spaces and stunning views. All residents receive private studio space with free access to programs, classes and lectures. Residents come together for a few meals each week which, at Craigardan, are an art form - prepared by chefs with seasonal, organic ingredients from our farm.

Location

Keene, New York: United States

Located in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks on 78 acres of forest and farm on the flanks of Hurricane Mountain.

Past Residents & Quotes

Craigardan offered me the kind of radical hospitality that every writer dreams of receiving. I had a room to myself in a rustic farmhouse, infinite hours to write, and the Adirondacks all around to offer inspiration and a place to stretch my limbs after a long day at work. Even better, the refrigerator was stuffed with eggs from the chickens outside our windows and vegetables from the garden. All of this support allowed me the time and focus to finish a draft of my novel in ten days.
