The Studios at MASS MoCA is a new program (launched in October 2015) offering residencies to artists from around the world. We provide private studio space (with 24/7 access) on the MASS MoCA campus in North Adams, Massachusetts, newly renovated housing right across the street (private bedroom, shared kitchen & bath), one communal meal per day, free access to Makers' Mill (the new printmaking and fiber arts makerspace in downtown North Adams --, and the option to receive free artist-focused financial and business coaching through MASS MoCA's Assets for Artists program ( The residency also includes temporary MASS MoCA membership (for the duration of the residency), providing free access to MASS MoCA's galleries so residents can visit the exhibitions as often as they like, while also enjoying discounts on performing arts tickets and museum store purchases.

Residencies are from 1-8 weeks, and there IS a fee, but we have both merit-based and need-based financial aid available for many participants.

Application now available for residency sessions between March 31, 2017 - October 5, 2017! Visit for more information.

North Adams, Massachusetts: United States

MASS MoCA is one of the world's largest and most renowned contemporary art museums, located in North Adams, Massachusetts, about 3 hours (by car) from Boston and New York. North Adams is a former industrial town of approximately 13,000 residents, nestled in the Berkshire Mountains. The surrounding region has tremendous hiking (the Appalachian Trail goes through North Adams, and there are numerous other trails in the surrounding hills -- Mount Greylock State Reservation, Clarksburg State Forest, Green Mountain National Forest, etc.). We also have fantastic arts attractions nearby, including the Clark Art Institute, Williams College Museum of Art and Williamstown Theater Festival just 10 minutes away, and Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, Shakespeare & Company, Barrington Stage and Berkshire Theater Festival less than an hour away.
