The ART-14 Residency, in conjunction with the L.a. Studio community’s art outreach and programming, was founded in 2023 as a haven for artists looking for a comfortable, collaborative, and creative space to explore their art and concentrate on their projects, while our local community simultaneously benefits from the activity at L.a. Studio.

We are located in the renovated St. Mary’s School building (constructed in 1912), which features 12-foot high ceilings and large 7-foot windows, with plenty of natural daylight and spacious workspaces for various artistic disciplines. Artists have 24h access to designated studio spaces including ceramics, stained glass, woodworking, and 3D printing/laser engraving equipment, as well as tons of open studio space for painting, sculpting, writing/composing, research, recording, and whatever else our artists can dream. Residents reside in newly renovated apartments conveniently located above the studios, on the second floor. Private rooms are available with shared access to kitchens, bathrooms, laundry, and a fully equipped gym.

This week-long residency provides space for 6 artist educators to center themselves and their work as artists first and get the well-deserved rest and rejuvenation they need. The residency balances personal work time with community interaction and optional sharing of work and process - all in support of each artist’s goals, needs and interests. Lodging is provided- we are not able to provide additional stipends or travel subsidies at this time.

This residency is open to artists who currently teach at a K-12 or higher educational institution or identify as a freelance teaching artist.

The Luminary Residency supports creative practitioners who engage with pressing issues of our time. As a residency focusing on process and research, The Luminary will provide individuals, small collectives, and collaborations with the space and time to rest, reflect and relate around a line of inquiry. The intention is that residents can focus on their research process, free of expectation of a final product. The Luminary welcomes national and international applicants of all backgrounds, such as artists, curators, writers, designers, educators, and arts administrators. Non-traditional backgrounds are welcome. 

In addition to time and space, each resident receives a weekly stipend for their project and funded travel to The Luminary in St. Louis. The Luminary has a three-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment with a full kitchen, dining area, living room, and free laundry. The apartment is located above the gallery on Cherokee Street, a small business corridor with restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, and bars. Please note that St. Louis is not very accessible by public transportation, so make a plan for your day-to-day travel around the city. 

This residency is largely self-directed and process-based. There is no expectation of a final product or outcome. However, if desired, there is an opportunity to work with The Luminary's team to engage with the St. Louis community through coffee dates, studio visits, small-scale programming, etc.

Mentorship Residency Program

The Indigo Arts Alliance studio located in Portland, Maine is the host site for our Mentorship Artists Residency program. This program is the heart of IAA, modeling our values of global community building. Our goal is to bring together artists from diverse backgrounds of the African Diaspora to engage in their creative process, while building lasting relationships rooted in co-mentorship. We believe artists hold the key in creating a better world, and in our work, we allow for Black and Brown voices to lead the way.

The Mentorship Residency Program is a pioneering residency concept that serves as an arts incubator with generous workspace and modern facilities enabling the creative work of visual artists across disciplines. We foster mentorship by pairing two artists together during a residency period to cultivate rich conversation, collaboration, and exchange experiences, knowledge, art industry information and technical skills. The artist-pairing consists of a National or International artist who is traveling to the state of Maine from their respective homes to be in residence with a Local/Regional artist. The goal of the pairing is to build positive relationships that enhance the individual artists as human beings and thought leaders. We want to create healthy relationships for artists of color who are navigating their art practice and create avenues of success that build networks.

R.A.R.O Barcelona offers an itinerant Artists In Residence program that allows artists to create in the different studios that are part of the R.A.R.O. network in Barcelona.

Each artist can work in a minimum of two studios for the period of the residency, deepening in different techniques, according to the project that they are aiming to develop.
R.A.R.O. also offers spaces to work in Curatorial Projects, Theater and Performance arts, as well as ceramics and textile art.

During the residency, artists may show their work to the local public, get in contact with local artists, curators and collectors among other art related enthusiasts. At the end of the residency, artists would have the opportunity to show their final work either as an Open studio or exhibition.

R.A.R.O. comes from an interest in creating opportunities for exchange and creation, where artists find a common place for production and artistic development. This type of itinerant residencies organisation, manages to generate an original and unique artistic space and creates opportunities for artists to carry out their projects.
