Open Call: Sound Artist in Residence Galicia, Spain

Supported by Culture Moves Europe / Creative Europe · European Union

Granite walls. Old growth. Wind moving through spaces that once held daily life.

O Castro Art Village is an abandoned rural settlement in the Ribeira Sacra, Galicia. The ruins amplify, absorb, and transform sound in ways no built studio can replicate. We are inviting one sound artista or musician to spend 30 days here during October 2026 to develop a permanent sound installation across the village, accessible through QR codes placed at specific points in the landscape. Not a guided tour: a second presence, a sonic layer that visitors find as they move through the site.

October changes this place: the forest floor softens with rain, migrating birds pass through, the valley fills with morning fog. You will be recording in a landscape at the height of its seasonal transition. The installation remains permanently at O Castro after your departure.

You will work alongside a visual artist and architect in residence, mentored by filmmaker Davoud Gerami, and live in a climate-controlled geodesic dome with a full bathroom inside the same forest you will be recording.
