Osage Arts Community

Belle , MO, United States

Osage Arts Community is a residency program that provides temporary time, space, and support for the creation of new work in a retreat format. These creative residencies are generally anywhere from one week to one year but average around six months. OAC serves creative people of all kinds – visual artists, video artists, composers, textile artists, ceramicists, poets, fiction and nonfiction writers.

OAC is located on a 160-acre farm in an isolated rural mountainside setting in Central Missouri bordered by ¾ of a mile of the Gasconade River. We provide a solitary retreat to those working alone, as well as welcoming collaborative teams, offering a living space and a country environment, in addition to workspace, to emerging and mid-career artists.

We are committed to a unified belief in the creative process, and we support this by offering dedicated time and space for the creation of new work.”

Osage Arts Community believes that our offer of admission is an award to you, the artist, so there is no residency fee charged.

Your submission will be reviewed by a panel representative of diverse artists and community members. They will select the resident from the applicant pool. All applications will be reviewed on the basis of: seriousness of purpose; harmony with OAC mission; creative use of the time, space and environment; and quality of proposal.

To being the process, please submit your application and residency contract for processing and review. And of course: Thank you for your submission and interest in OAC.

Applicants for the Osage Arts Community Visiting Artist Program must submit a written application and support materials. Residents are chosen by a selection committee of professionals in the arts. The major criteria for acceptance are the quality of work samples and an indication of serious commitment to one’s field of endeavor.

Because space allows for only a limited number of artists, all applications and support materials should be postmarked as soon as possible. We have no application deadlines, and applications are always considered on a space available basis.

OAC provides housing, studio space, Internet access, facilities, and program administration. With special request, OAC can provide limited transportation to and from the facility, although you will find having a car to be quite useful.

Artists must provide their own professional supplies. Artists are also responsible for participation in work exchange program, personal living expenses, health insurance, materials and supplies, telephone charges, and any other expenses relating to the cost of producing work artist-in-residence may incur while in the program. Travel and shipping expenses to and from OAC are also the responsibility of the artist.

Studio/Work Space

Studio/work space assignments will be coordinated with individual artists’ needs and will be determined upon arrival on the basis of availability.

There are a large variety of living and studio spaces.  Not all of them are described here.

In the main residence, there are five rooms with attached bathroom. Of these rooms there is the kitchen, the dining room, two bedrooms for two separate artists, and one 800 sq. ft. studio space. The ceiling in this studio space is a twelve-foot vaulted ceiling with a sink and hot water. There is good light, beautiful views, and studio walls upon which you can easily attach paper, canvas, and other art materials. There is an attic fan, heat, and air conditioning.

And, of course, some of  the living/work spaces are located on a 170 acre natural environment is your outdoor studio, along with the Gasconade River that runs along the property.

Sometimes an artist’s dedicated workspace is his / her / they bedroom.

We have no soundproof studio space for musicians, so we ask them to work with headphones or in the vast outdoor space. We have plans for a darkroom, so photographers are limited in the work they can finalize at OAC. We have electric kilns. We have no specific rehearsal space for dance or theater.

Please realize that depending on the facility, we cannot guarantee the absolute tranquility that you may desire. The artists must respect the needs of each other.  Also, birds, vehicles on the highway or streets, and the neighborhood dogs bark at strangers who pass on the street. We have limited control over the ambient sounds.

Cow House Studios

Cow House Studios

Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, Ireland

Cow House Studios artist residencies have provided studio space for professional visual artists working in any discipline. These residencies offer a valuable platform for emerging, mid-career, and established artists. Furthermore, our residency program brings critically engaging contemporary artwork to our rural locality, expands our community, and informs our educational programming. We are committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for artists to explore and challenge new ideas, facilitating individual research and interdisciplinary exchange.

Artists share our large, adaptable studio allowing them to become acquainted with and challenged by one another's work. Additionally, artists are provided with comfortable private accommodation where participants regularly enjoy great meals and conversation. Over the years, we have changed and expanded our offerings to include residences designed for artists at all levels, educators, and curators. Our regular programming now comprises three main programs. These are our Open Residency Programme, our Parenting Artist Residency (PAR), and our annually themed curated residency.

In addition to our recurring residencies, we continue to develop new programming in collaboration with key national and international organizations and artists working independently in Ireland and abroad. These partnerships offer unique opportunities for the exhibition and publication of new works and professional development through facilitated

ON::VIEW Artist Residency

Savannah, GA, United States

ARTS Southeast is excited to invite you to apply to the ON::View Artist Residency! Located in the heart of Savannah’s Starland District, the ON::VIEW Artist Residency provides a free, high visibility studio space for an artist to complete a new project, to continue an in-progress endeavor, or to conduct research exploring conceptual, material, performative, and social practices. The studio’s large windows look out onto Bull Street, the district’s main thoroughfare, allowing the artists’ work to be on view to the community at all times. ARTS Southeast's visitors and passersby on the sidewalk witness the artists’ process as it unfolds in real time, seeing all the steps involved from concept to final execution. Community events like workshops, performances, public art projects and artist talks, offer creative ways to interact with the public. The ON::View Residency supports artists from across the globe, working in all media.

Just five blocks east of the Residency Studio, the 5th Dimension Apartment features a full kitchen, bath and main room to comfortably house the Artist (+1 guest if requested) for month-long Residency stays. The 5th Dimension Apartment has a private gated entrance and private garden with plenty of space to create, lounge and entertain.

Nitty Gritty Details:

Located just off the lobby in Sulfur Studios, the Residency Studio is 12 x 12 feet with large street level, east facing windows, which allow the community to view the Residents’ work 24/7. Artists may work in any medium suitable for the space.

Artists will have multiple opportunities to meet and connect with the local art community, and our ON::Call for ON::View list of Savannah experts provides unique one-on-one access to some of the city’s most knowledgeable and esteemed citizens specializing in Savannah history, art, activism, native flora and fauna, music, science and more, in support of Residents’ research and to provide additional avenues of community support during their residency period.

All ON::View Residents will do an Instagram Takeover for the duration of their Residency, sharing their process via @onviewresidency

All ON::View Residents will have the opportunity to participate in an annual group exhibition featuring all of the Residents of the last year. The exhibition will take place in January, 2024.

The ON::View Studio provides 24 hour access to Residents. Additionally, Residents must commit to working in the studio during our public open hours (TH - SUN, noon to 5PM) a minimum of one day per week.

  • Dates of Residency periods are firm. There are no exceptions for early move ins, late move outs, etc. as the spaces must be prepared for the next incoming Resident. Residents must be present during the First Friday Program Finale (see specific dates below).
  • Residents are encouraged to engage the community by giving a public lecture or workshop, or other interactive event during their stay.
  • Artists coming from out of town must cover their own travel costs. We offer lodging for accepted Residents at the 5th Dimension Apartment, located 5 blocks east of Sulfur Studios.

The Residency Studio has open air flow into the lobby and gallery area which makes the following restrictions necessary:

  • No aerosol or other toxic/high-voc materials are allowed in the space.
  • No ongoing or repetitive loud noises, such as grinding.  Occasional use of hand and power tools IS allowed.

- The Residency Studio is climate controlled, but due to its proximity to the doors and the large windows it can be warmer/cooler than the rest of the space depending on outside temperature.

- Limited furnishings in the Residency Studio are available. Accepted applicants must provide their own materials and supplies.

- Sulfur Studios does not insure the property of the Resident artist.

- Current Studio members or artists who have rented a studio at Sulfur Studios in the last 6 months are not eligible for this Residency.

- Collaborative teams are eligible for the Residency. One proposal should be submitted for the entire team. The 5th Dimension Apartment can house 2 artists comfortably, if teams of more than 2 artists would like to submit, making additional housing arrangements is encouraged.

- Artists may seek additional support or funding from other organizations to cover project costs if they wish. Sulfur Studios will be happy to provide a letter of support to accepted Residents seeking grants or other funding sources.

Alaska AIR - Bunnell Street Arts Center Artist in Residence

Homer, AK, United States

Bunnell Street Arts Center's "Alaska AIR" Artist-in-Residency program seeks international, US and Alaska artists looking to create new work and deeply engage Bunnell’s community.

Bunnell seeks artists to strengthen the social, physical and economic fabric of Homer through the arts by addressing pertinent themes. These may include accessibility, inclusion, decolonization, sustainability, skills sharing and exchange, enhancing community well being, joy, or artistic strategies to build connection within communities.

Mediums include, but are not limited to, visual, literary and performing arts, social and civic practice, ephemeral art, moving image, movement, music composition and performance.

Alaska AIR residencies are generally scheduled for one month, October - April. The program provides a $2000 artist stipend, travel, lodging, and studio/gallery space. One to four Alaska AIR residencies are awarded annually, as Bunnell’s funding and scheduling permit.

Boyne City, MI, United States

RADicle is The Croft Residency's collaborative residency with RAD Fest in Kalamazoo, MI. The residency includes a fall residency at The Croft, usually in September, and a performance opportunity the following spring as a featured artist at RAD Fest in Kalamazoo, in early March. The Croft can host up to 4 artist/collaborators as a part of each residency. The RADicle residents will have access to the rehearsal spaces at The Croft Residency and studio space in a Petoskey, a small town close to the residency. While in residence, the artists are required to give a gift to the land everyday, to leave a gift for the next residents, and to engage with local community through an engagement that supports their creative practice. The RADicle residency length is 1-2 weeks. The specific length of the residency, within this frame, is up the artists. Each collaborator will receive a $575 stipend for their time. The Croft Residency is a small residency on the hill facing South located in Horton Bay Michigan. The residency is on a 20 acre parcel of land on a dead end street. The residency overlooks Lake Charlevoix. Our main studio space is a large outdoor deck for dancing. We also have access to the communities' old one room schoolhouse, which is just down the hill.

We support movement based creatives. Choreographers/companies are able to apply with collaborators of different mediums for creative residencies. On average we host groups of up to 4 dancers for creative residencies. The residencies we host are generally either one or two weeks. The stipend amount that we offer to our residents is the same regardless of residency length. We offer stipends of $575 per artist and travel reimbursement of up to $500 per artist.

We require the artists to give a gift to the land/engage in intentional relationship with the land everyday as a part of their process. Artists also leave a gift for the next resident. We ask artists to engage with the public. We work with the artists to find the engagement that makes the most sense for their process.
