Alchemy Spring Island 2027

Associated Residency Program

ALCHEMY is an artist-led international residency offering artists time and space to explore the intersections of creative practice, place and community. Through dedicated studio time, site-specific exploration, lively salon-style suppers and conversation, participants are invited to deepen their practice while learning from one another in a respectful and supportive environment.

Founded in 2015 on the Toronto Islands, Alchemy’s pillars are food, art, garden, and table —inspired by the original gardens and long-standing creative community at the Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts. Alchemy creates opportunities for artists to make and share art, food, and conversation with community members and visiting artists. Shared meals, concentrated studio time, visiting artist talks and studio visits create a rich environment for making, reflection, exchange, and connection. Artists whose practices explore the intersections of art, food, collective well-being, and community — or those who are curious about how these ideas can inform their work—are especially encouraged to apply.

Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts is a peaceful artist retreat nestled within the Toronto Islands—the largest car-free community in North America, 15 minutes by ferry from downtown Toronto.

Fee: 1100 CAD (plus applicable taxes) includes online pre-arrival orientation, private bedroom, shared studio space, thematic programming, guest artist talks, shared suppers, and Open Studio participation.
