Project Uchi is an emerging residency model at Western Hills Garden that integrates creative practice, ecological stewardship, and community engagement. Situated within a historic botanical garden in Northern California, we host artists and interdisciplinary practitioners whose work engages nature, place, and community connection. Named for the Japanese concept of home, belonging, and interior work, our program offers time, space, and context for focused practice while exploring how residencies can create meaningful exchange between residents, the land, and the surrounding community through workshops, performances, conversations, and shared meals.
