Sculpture Space Residency Program
Since 1976, Sculpture Space has been a launchpad for more than 630 visionary artists from across the globe—a place where bold ideas take shape and connections spark across materials, cultures, and generations. Our residency offers far more than studio space; it’s an invitation to experiment, collaborate, and immerse yourself in a dynamic community of makers, thinkers, and dreamers.
Throughout each season, residents engage with visiting artists, curators, and writers, sharing ideas that ignite new directions in their work. Every session culminates in a Works-in-Progress reception, when the public is welcomed into the studio to experience art in motion—unpolished, alive, and full of potential.
Artists are selected by a panel of distinguished peers and professionals for their originality, clarity of vision, and potential for growth. Accepted artists are notified in March. Each receives a $1,000 travel/materials/food stipend to help offset travel and materials. As funding allows, additional financial assistance may be available. We also encourage residents to pursue individual grants and partnerships to further amplify their creative opportunities.
At Sculpture Space, we believe in artists who shape the future through curiosity, generosity, and courage. Join us, and bring your vision to life in an environment that celebrates experimentation and the boundless possibilities of sculpture.

Application Information
Since 1976, Sculpture Space has helped to support the careers and studio practice of over 630 artists from around the world. As desired, artists and arts professionals (including curators and writers) are invited for informal studio visits. The collaborative environment of the studio and the communal aspects of the residence help foster dialogue, the exchange of ideas, creative experimentation and both personal and professional connections. The local community is invited to Works in Progress reception during each cohort; other visits are arranged by appointment.
Artists are selected to the program by a panel of artists and professionals in the sculpting field. Applicants will be notified in March if accepted. Primary criteria for selection are based on the quality, originality and potential of each artist work and proposed project. Dependent on funding, financial aid may be made available. Funded residencies should not be relied on and all accepted artists are encouraged to find individual grants and funding.

Studio & Facilities
The studio is located in Utica New York, close to downtown, in proximity to light industry and various fabrication shops. The collaborative environment of the studio and the communal aspects of the residence help foster dialogue, exchange of ideas, creative experimentation and both personal and professional connections. The 5,500 square foot facility consists of 3,800 square feet of open studio space and six enclosed semi-private studios. The studio is outfitted with concrete floors, a two ton system of traveling hoists, and extra wide overhead doors. Both studio and house provide wireless access and artists may borrow available digital equipment. The ¾ acres of land surrounding the building can supplement indoor studio space during certain times of the year. An outdoor work pad is equipped with a 50' monorail hoist. Artists should bring their own goggles, hand-tools and specialized equipment.
