Obee Editions
Obee Editions offers a collaborative artist residency focused on the creation of original fine art printmaking projects. Artists work one-on-one with Tamarind Master Printer Perry Obee to develop new work through traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques.
This is a collaborative residency, not a class, workshop, or private studio rental. Perry handles the technical aspects of printing while the artist leads all aesthetic and conceptual decisions and actively generates plates, stones, or other matrices under guidance and supervision. Through sustained dialogue and shared decision making, projects evolve organically and often arrive at unexpected outcomes.
Residents can expect a focused, immersive studio experience emphasizing experimentation, translation, and collaboration through processes including lithography, monotype, relief, chine collé, digital processes, artist books, and hybrid approaches.
Artists working in any medium are encouraged to apply. Prior printmaking experience is welcome but not required.

Residency Program Summary
Application Information
Artists working in any medium are encouraged to apply. Prior printmaking experience is welcome but not required.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Artists are invited to submit a portfolio, artist statement, brief project proposal, and preferred date ranges.
The proposal does not need to be fully formed or finalized. This is a collaborative residency by design. Prior to arrival, the proposed scope is discussed with the master printer based on the artist’s interests and working methods. Once in the studio, the project continues to develop in real time through sustained dialogue and hands-on collaboration.
Cost is project dependent, with rates varying based on scope, duration, and materials. Residency fees include standard studio materials and up to three sheets of fine art printmaking paper per day (maximum of ten sheets total). Projects requiring specialized materials, additional paper, or non-standard supplies beyond those regularly stocked by the studio may incur additional material costs billed at cost.
Residencies have a three-day minimum.
Multi-Day Residency (3+ consecutive days): $325/day
Weekly Residency (5 consecutive weekdays, Mon–Fri): $1,500
Two-Week Residency (10 consecutive weekdays, Mon–Fri): $3,000
Custom project structures and extended residencies may be arranged based on the needs of the artist and project.
While Obee Editions operates on a fee-based residency model, many artists secure external funding through grants, fellowships, or other independent support to offset costs. Visiting artists are responsible for travel and lodging arrangements.
The studio is happy to provide support materials, letters of support, or documentation for grant and funding applications upon request for accepted residents.
Accessibility
The studio is partially wheelchair accessible. Entry is available via a ground-level overhead door, which provides step-free access into the main studio space. However, the bathroom is not wheelchair accessible due to a step-down entry.
We are a small, working printmaking studio, and accessibility varies by area of the space. We are happy to discuss individual access needs in advance of a residency and will do our best to accommodate artists wherever possible within the limitations of the building.
As a small, collaborative printmaking studio, Obee Editions provides individualized support through direct communication with the master printer before and during the residency. We are available to discuss access needs in advance and will do our best to accommodate artists within the limitations of the space. Orientation is provided upon arrival, and ongoing guidance is offered throughout the residency to support both studio access and process-based needs.
In addition to residencies, Obee Editions engages in collaborative publishing projects and exhibitions of artist editions, and participates in art fairs and other public-facing programming that highlight work developed in the studio.
Artists with limited mobility can access and participate in a significant portion of the residency within the main studio space, which is step-free and accessible via a ground-level garage door entrance. Most printmaking processes, collaborative work with the master printer, and studio-based activities take place in this main area.
However, the bathroom is not wheelchair accessible due to a step-down entry, and some areas of the building have limited access. We encourage artists to contact us in advance to discuss specific access needs so we can plan accordingly and provide as much support as possible within the constraints of the space.

Studio & Facilities
Obee Editions is a collaborative fine art printmaking studio specializing in traditional and contemporary lithography and related print processes, including monotype, relief, chine collé, and hybrid digital approaches.
The facility includes a fully equipped printmaking workspace with presses, stone and plate preparation areas, drawing tables, paper tearing stations, and print drying racks. Book arts and artist book production are supported with equipment including a board shear, guillotine cutter, platen letterpress, and a range of bookbinding tools and materials.
Additional studio amenities include a kitchenette with a microwave, mini fridge, water boiler, coffee maker, and toaster oven, as well as a private bathroom.
The main studio workspace is step-free and accessible via a ground-level garage door entrance. Some secondary areas of the facility, including the bathroom threshold and certain transitional spaces, are not fully wheelchair accessible.
Obee Editions operates as an active collaborative studio rather than a passive workspace rental. Artists work one-on-one with a master printer in a production-focused environment where process, experimentation, and dialogue are central to the development of each project.
The studio supports both editioned and unique works, and projects often evolve through direct engagement with materials and iterative decision-making in real time. While artists lead the conceptual and aesthetic direction, technical aspects of print production are supported through close collaboration throughout the residency.
The studio environment is structured for focused making, with time dedicated to both independent work and collaborative printing sessions. Residencies are flexible and adapted to the needs of each project, within the limits of the facilities and schedule.
Obee Editions is located in Black Mountain, North Carolina, near Asheville, and is part of a broader regional arts community with connections to visiting artists, publishers, and exhibition opportunities.
