The Micro-Residency at Bischoff Inn offers artists a calm, restorative space for focused work, reflection, and renewal. Rooted in the Anthracite Coal Region of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, the program invites artists to step away from daily demands and immerse themselves in a setting that supports both creative practice and meaningful rest.
Our mission is to cultivate an enduring community of returning artists, a “sleepaway camp” for creative people of sorts, where relationships, ideas, and projects can grow over time. Artists are encouraged to engage with the region’s landscape, history, culture, and residents, developing work that responds to or is inspired by the local community.
Through repeat visits and long-term connections, the Micro-Residency seeks to foster an evolving exchange between artists and place: one that supports sustained artistic development while honoring the distinct character of the Anthracite Coal Region.
A maximum of 5 artists per week long session, 10 total, will be admitted.
Spring Session Micro-Residency artists receive a private guest room and bathroom with a queen-size bed, fresh linens, towels, soap, Wi-Fi, climate control, and a smart TV.
Artists also have access to the shared lounge, which includes a refrigerator, microwave, coffee and tea bar, grab-and-go snacks, and kitchen sink. A four-foot folding table and chair can be provided in each room for artists who would like an additional work surface.
There is no separate studio space during the Winter/Spring Micro-Residency. Artists use their guest room as their primary workspace, making this session best suited to projects that are quiet, compact, and unlikely to damage the space.
Ideal Winter/Spring residents include artists who:
- Create small-scale 2D work, such as drawing, collage, or other low-impact media
- Work in textiles, fiber arts, or fashion design
- Are writers, composers, photographers, graphic designers, scholars, or artists whose projects are completed primarily on a computer or off-site

$15 application fee
A single resident's flat residency fee is $450 per week for our standard queen rooms.
The Jr Suite, our largest room, is best suited for two artists who would like to attend the program together and want to share a room. The flat residency fee for the Jr Suite is $550 per week.
Please keep in mind that we must charge taxes & a credit card processing fee for all residency fees.
