Since 2014, The Porch Writers' Collective has inspired, educated, and connected writers and readers of all ages and stages through a wide range of high-quality classes and literary events. Primary programming objectives include strengthening the art, craft, and knowledge of creative writing while cultivating a deep literary culture and heritage within the Middle Tennessee community. Our literary programming engages many community segments, including youth, immigrants, and at-risk and vulnerable populations. This year, The Porch is projected to serve approximately 5,100 community members. This includes an estimated 150 adults representing 15 countries through the Immigrants Write program, 500 Nashville youth, 750 individuals through our diverse affinity groups, and 1,700 individuals in active recovery through the Writing for Good initiative.
The Porch anticipates offering approximately 170 adult workshops across a range of genres, including fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, screenwriting, publishing and career, and other literary topics, further expanding access to high-quality creative writing education and supportive community.
Additionally, The Porch will host nine accomplished writers through our Visiting Writers Series, a program that aims to connect writers from the South and beyond to varied communities in Nashville, Tennessee. Since 2016, the Visiting Writers Series has steadily expanded its offerings, uniquely positioning The Porch to celebrate renowned and diverse writers by inviting them to share their work, knowledge, and experiences with interested audiences within and outside the literary world. Through this generous opportunity, The Porch Writers’ Collective seeks funding for the Visiting Writers Series to connect these acclaimed writers through in-person and virtual gatherings with writers and readers within and outside the Middle Tennessee region.
