Rural Hackers Residencies are hosted in Anceu, a village of 102 inhabitants nestled in the hills of Ponte Caldelas, Galicia (Spain). Our residency program is built around a simple but radical premise: create with the village, not just in it.
We invite artists, makers, technologists, and creative practitioners from around the world to develop projects rooted in deep dialogue with Anceu — its people, landscape, history, and rhythms. Rural settings aren't just peaceful backdrops here; they're active collaborators. Residents have access to private accommodation at Anceu Coliving, a fully equipped Maker Space (3D printer, vinyl cutter, plastic recycling machine), weekly one-on-one mentoring sessions, and a vibrant international creative community. Every residency culminates in a public event — an exhibition, installation, workshop, or intervention — experienced by the people who call Anceu home.
Past projects have included public art installations along forest paths, portrait series of 80 local residents, community murals celebrating Galician heritage, natural dyeing workshops, environmental monitoring systems built with 3D-printed technology, and a printed magazine documenting village life.
We offer two modalities: a self-funded residency (open year-round, €1,600/month) and fully funded residencies through programs such as Culture Moves Europe, Erasmus+, and partnerships with cultural organizations. Rural Hackers is a non-profit organization and founding member of CRAB, the first European network of rural creative hubs.
