Trinacria Theatre Company

It is the mission and duty of Trinacria to use the arts as a means of intercultural exchange, placemaking and community-building, both locally and globally. We believe in the power of the arts to communicate across languages and to create a bridge of empathetic human connection across cultures. 

We focus on building place-specific artistic projects, programs, and events in collaboration with communities that are underrepresented in the mainstream collective mythos. Our current practice is focused on the small, remote rural village of Pezzolo in the Southern Messina region of Sicily.

Our programs include:

• International artist residencies

• Ensemble-created theatre productions

• An annual arts festival

• Community-driven events

• Workshops & other educational programs

Our practice is collectivist and communal; whenever possible, we encourage our artists to develop their work in immersion and collaboration with the communities served. Simultaneously we urge our artists to keep in mind a global audience who, through their encounter with the art, will grow in understanding and appreciation of the community’s unique history, mythology, culture, traditions, practices, stories, and character.
