ARTS 14C Curatorial Fellowship
The ARTS 14C Curatorial Fellowship is a new 12-month live/work residency for a curator looking for the time, space, community, and hands-on experience to deepen their practice and develop new ideas.
The Fellowship begins December 1, 2026 and is part of Project 14C’s vibrant residency community in Jersey City, New Jersey, which includes long-term professional development residencies as well as short-term, project-based residencies for artists working across disciplines. Located in the Powerhouse Arts District, just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, Project 14C offers a welcoming environment for exchange, experimentation, collaboration, and connection.
The Curatorial Fellow receives a private furnished live/work loft studio with two bathrooms and a kitchenette at no cost, including utilities and Wi-Fi, and becomes an active member of this creative community. The Fellow also works closely with Gallery 14C and its artists, gaining hands-on experience with the creative and practical aspects of exhibition development.
A centerpiece of the Fellowship is the opportunity to conceive and curate an exhibition, allowing the Fellow’s ideas and curatorial vision to evolve over the course of the residency.

Application Information
The Curatorial Fellowship is designed for a curator ready to take an active role in both the Project 14C residency community and Gallery 14C’s exhibition program.
Over the 12-month Fellowship, the Curatorial Fellow is responsible for overseeing four exhibitions at Gallery 14C, working directly with artists and participating in the planning, development, installation, and presentation of each exhibition. One of the four is the Fellow’s own Curator’s Exhibition—an opportunity to develop an original curatorial vision during the residency and bring it to life in the gallery.
The Fellow is expected to make Project 14C their primary residence for the duration of the Fellowship and to engage actively with our multidisciplinary community of resident artists.
We welcome curators at different stages of their careers and with a range of curatorial backgrounds and approaches. We are looking for someone excited not only to develop their own practice, but also to contribute meaningfully to the artists, exhibitions, and community around them.
There is no fee to participate in the Curatorial Fellowship. The Fellow receives a private, furnished live/work loft at Project 14C for the full 12-month residency, with rent, utilities, and Wi-Fi provided at no cost.
The Fellowship also includes access to Project 14C’s shared spaces, residency community and programming, as well as the opportunity to develop and present exhibitions at Gallery 14C.
The Fellow is responsible for their own living expenses, transportation, and other personal expenses during the residency.
Accessibility
ARTS 14C's 125,000 square foot facility was fully renovated in 2019 and is ADA compliant. The facility includes several loft studios designed for wheelchair accessibility, as well as accessible common and programming spaces.
ARTS 14C is committed to making our residencies and public programs accessible. We have worked with artists with disabilities to provide accommodations based on their individual needs and have also made accommodations for audience members participating in exhibitions, events, and other public programming.
We encourage residents and visitors to communicate specific access needs with us so that we can work together to support full participation in our programs.
Artists with limited mobility can participate fully in the residency experience. ARTS 14C is ADA compliant and includes accessible live/work lofts, common areas, and programming spaces. Residents can participate in the community, exhibitions, events, and professional development activities offered on site.
We recognize that accessibility needs vary from person to person and are committed to working directly with residents to make appropriate accommodations that support their full participation in the residency.
We are not aware of any areas of Project 14C that are inaccessible. The facility was fully renovated in 2019 to meet ADA accessibility standards, with elevator access to all residency and programming floors and accessible common spaces.
In the event of an emergency when elevators cannot be used, designated Areas of Refuge are located on each floor. Our security staff is made aware when residents use wheelchairs or have mobility needs that preclude the use of stairs, so that their needs can be incorporated into emergency procedures.
Several of our live/work lofts are specifically designed for wheelchair accessibility, and we are happy to discuss individual access needs with prospective residents prior to arrival.
Housing & Accomodation
ARTS 14C offers a range of shared creative and communal spaces that encourage residents to work across disciplines, experiment, collaborate, and connect with one another. These include a recording studio, Writers’ Room, Visual Arts Workroom, dance studio, textile studio, resident gathering and meeting areas, community kitchens, laundry facilities, Gallery 14C, and other flexible programming spaces.
Common and communal spaces are accessible by elevator and designed to support participation by residents with limited mobility. Accessible public restrooms are available in the building.
Because community is an important part of the residency experience, we work to ensure that residents with disabilities can participate fully in shared facilities, exhibitions, events, and professional development programming. Designated Areas of Refuge are located on each floor for use during emergencies when elevators cannot be used.
Studio & Facilities
The Curatorial Fellow has a private furnished live/work loft at ARTS 14C, providing dedicated space for research, writing, meetings, and independent work throughout the 12-month residency.
Residents also have access to shared creative facilities designed to support work across disciplines. These include a Visual Arts Workroom for projects that require space beyond the resident’s loft; a Writers’ Room for focused writing, workshops and group exchange; a recording studio for music, audio, podcasting, and other sound-based work; and a dance studio for movement, rehearsal, performance development, and other uses requiring open floor space. There is also a textile studio, with sewing machines and extensive fabric and supplies.
Gallery 14C provides the Curatorial Fellow with a professional exhibition environment in which to work directly with artists and develop exhibitions. Additional shared and flexible spaces throughout the building support meetings, workshops, critiques, presentations, collaboration, and informal exchange among residents.
Together, the private and shared facilities are intended to give residents both the independence to focus deeply on their own work and opportunities to experiment, collaborate, and engage with artists working in other disciplines.
ARTS 14C’s studios and workspaces are intended to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our resident community. Shared facilities give artists opportunities to work beyond the boundaries of their primary discipline—writers can experiment with audio, visual artists can explore textiles or performance, and residents can collaborate on projects that bring together different forms of creative practice.
Facilities are shared among residents, and access is coordinated according to the needs of individual projects and programs. Whenever possible, we work with residents to identify the space, equipment, and resources that can best support their work.
The Curatorial Fellow is encouraged to make use of these resources not only for their own research and projects, but also in developing exhibitions, programs, conversations, and collaborations with artists throughout the ARTS 14C community.
