MAR+RC Artist-in-Residency Open Call

Associated Residency Program

Middlebrook Arts Research + Residency Center is an accessible and inclusive dance and arts residency center located in the community of Jefferson, NY. Residents can expect to experience a rural atmosphere, with scenic mountains, thriving wildlife, and an overall natural beauty of the 9 acres of land. MAR+RC is operated by Teresa Fellion, Founder & Artistic Director of BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance, and serves as a rehearsal space for the company. Teresa and her husband, Orin, purchased this refurbished barn in 2020 after returning from her work in the United Arab Emirates.

Offered programs include a robust artist-in-residence program, ongoing performance programming steered by resident artists, an annual performance series by BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance, dance classes for adult and youth students, and health/wellness retreats. We invite creators through various mediums within the performing, literary, and visual arts to participate in our programs.

Jefferson is a town in Schoharie County, New York, with a small population of 1,285 people. The barn was originally built in 1900. It has served many purposes, and we are excited for the next step in its evolution as a communal, residential arts venue. We aim to enhance diversity and inclusion within the Jefferson and larger Schoharie County communities by making arts and culture accessible to all residents and visitors.

Middlebrook Arts Research + Residency Center offers up to a 32% discount for resident artists participating in our Work Exchange/Artist Retreat hybrid program. This program offers lower residency rates for contributed work at the Middlebrook property. Duties typically include cleanup associated with renovations, organization and breaking down of materials, other light work at the barn, and light outdoor gardening and landscaping projects. Participants can expect to get dirty, do light lifting, vacuuming, dusting, and mopping. A typical schedule for the work exchange participant would be 2 hours of work per day, with shorter plans available upon discussion.

For interested artists, the Center will create a personalized plan for the Work Exchange/Artist Retreat hybrid program.
