Artists' Sojourn at ESSA: A Creative Retreat in the Ozarks

Eureka Springs, AR, United States

The Artists’ Sojourn at the Eureka Springs School of the Arts is a unique mini-residency designed for artists who crave uninterrupted creative time in an inspiring natural setting. This experience offers the rare opportunity to slow down, reconnect with your creative practice, and enjoy the breathtaking vistas and stunning natural beauty of the Ozark Mountains.

Spend two weeks on ESSA’s beautiful, wooded campus with a private room, 24-hour studio access, and the freedom to focus on your art without the usual demands of daily life. When you’re not in the studio there are plenty of opportunities nearby to hike scenic trails, enjoy mountain biking, paddle or fish on nearby rivers and lakes, take in the fall colors, or spend an afternoon wandering the shops, galleries, and historic streets of downtown Eureka Springs.

Residency includes:

  • Private lodging on campus
  • 24-hour access to your studio
  • Access to the Commons House with a full kitchen, gathering spaces, and deck
  • Opportunities to connect with other artists, instructors, and the local creative community
  • A closing event where residents can share and sell their work

Residency Fellowships

Fellowship Support for ESSA Artist Residencies

ESSA believes that financial circumstances should not prevent artists from accessing meaningful creative opportunities. To help make artist residencies more accessible, a limited number of fellowship awards are available each year.

Residency fellowships cover 50% of the residency fee and are awarded through a competitive application process. Fellowship recipients are selected based on application materials, financial need, residency goals, and available funding.

Fellowships are made possible through the generosity of ESSA donors and community supporters who help remove financial barriers for artists, makers, and creative learners.
