Accessibility
Our studio is located in a historic hillside city center, with most housing options located in the nearby ancient medina, neither of which are accessible by wheel chair or by guests with mobility disabilities. Our studio is on the second floor of a historic 100 year old building without an elevator. The cobblestone streets and sidewalks in the city are often uneven and most events and excursions are accessed by walking. We advise our applicants to be aware of these conditions and assess whether or not this type of residency will be a good fit for their accessibility needs.
N/A
We do not recommend this residency to artists with severe mobility limitations. Artists who are able to walk, but with difficulty, may benefit from bringing along an assistant or arranging to employ a local assistant during their stay. The location requires a fair amount of walking and climbing stairs to the 2nd floor studio. Taxi's can be arranged if necessary, and a resident artist could participate in most of the studio in-house work space, events and activities, as long as they are able to walk from their housing to the studio.
Artists stay in housing in the local area and ancient city surrounding the studio. The path between housing and studio is uneven cobblestone, with high curbs. Access to the studio includes an entrance with a high threshold and two flights of stairs to reach the 2nd floor studio. Inside the studio all rooms and spaces are level, except for the bathrooms, which have a raised floor and step up for entry.
Housing & Accomodation
In addition to their own studios, artists have access to our small library sitting room, a resource room full of tools, supplies and a shared computer/printer, a woodshop, a shared kitchen, wash-up area, laundry room, bathrooms, balconies and rooftop with a view.
Housing is not included with the residency but we are happy to recommend trusted partnering housing providers, within a short walk of the studios. See our housing options for more details.
Studio & Facilities
Within our 2nd floor studio facility, artists may choose either a shared or private studio, and enjoy access to secure internet, computer with printer/scanner, wood shop, printmaking studio, a range of artist furniture and equipment. Artists have full access to a common kitchen and a library/sitting room, as well as wash area, shared bathrooms and laundry room.
The studio is well ventilated by cross breeze and windows but does not have a/c. Each studio has a fan, and a space heater to use during the winter months.
