Jentel Artist Residency

Banner, WY, United States

The Jentel Artist Residency offers dedicated individuals a supportive environment to further their creative development. Nestled in the foothills of the Big Horn mountains, artists, writers, and composers experience unfettered time to allow for thoughtful reflection and meditation on the creative process.

Jentel awards residencies to artists, writers, and composers who are focused and serious about their intent, who may have proven themselves by publication, exhibition or performance or who may not necessarily be well advanced in their work, but who have developed a personal vision or voice. The program welcomes visual artists in all media and writers in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry and composers in all genres of music.

Each resident is provided with living accommodations that include a private room and a shared common living area with kitchen and a separate studio space.

Anyone over 25 years of age who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply. Those currently enrolled in academic programs are ineligible to apply.

Studios/Facilities Details

The visual artist and composer studios are located in a pole barn, a typical metal ranch outbuilding that is outfitted with ventilation and lighting to accommodate four artists with large, individual 400-square-foot studio spaces.

Flat fourteen foot ceilings enhance the spaciousness of the studio. A small single window allows visibility to the outdoors and maximizes the amount of running, usable wall space (11’, 13’ and 24’ continuous running feet) for two dimensional work.

Studios are equipped with:

  • two worktables (one on wheels and glass, topped at 76 x 34 inches, and the other metal topped at 34 x 60 inches)
  • a standard wooden straight back chair
  • an adjustable stool on wheels
  • a full length mirror
  • a day bed
  • a utility sink with hot and cold water
  • a small metal trash can
  • a closed metal cabinet
  • a paper towel dispenser
  • broom and dust pan
  • good overhead light with both track and fluorescent lights on separate controls
  • Commercial air handler (ventilation system) for each of the [4] studios

_______________

Two separate writer studios are located in a cabin that is outfitted with furnishings and utilities in comfortable spaces to support privacy and reflection. A window allows visibility to the outdoors and each studio has separate climate control.

Studios are equipped with:

  • a writing desk and adjustable office chair
  • a desk lamp
  • a reclining lounge chair
  • book shelves
  • overhead track lighting
