The Mudhouse Residency is an artist residency program designed to provide a cultural immersion; with the local community of a unique Cretan mountain village, with the rich historical context of the ancient Minoan civilization, and with the isolation and inspiration the natural environment and location provides.

Contemporary artists have the opportunity to enrich their professional practice with largely forgotten labors of traditional artisans and craftspeople of Crete, combining historical methods and mediums with present day techniques and materials. Inspiration is provided by the uncommon context of the residency; in an almost abandoned mountain village the ruins play an important role in the artistic expression of the artists-in-residence. In return, the residency brings life to the village, supporting the local community and allowing for communication and collaboration.

The residency is inclusive to a variety of artistic disciplines, with the facilities to accommodate studio artists, printmakers, fiber artists, ceramicists, photographers, filmmakers, writers, choreographers and composers. We will be offering residency specific workshops in eco-friendly processes and traditional materials such as sourcing botanical inks, papermaking, creating artists’ books, printmaking, ceramics, loom weaving and traditional Cretan dances. The residency also provides artists who don’t require the use of a studio with the time and structure to focus on a non-studio based project.

Create in Tranquility! Soaring Gardens Artists Retreat in the country outside of Laceyville, PA offers visual artists, writers, composers and other musicians   three week summer residencies between May & Sept. 

We have two resident/studio buildings accommodating a maximum of six artists. No application fee, no demands, simply spacious studios, pleasant rooms, nature and time. Applicants from historically marginalized communities are particularly encouraged to apply. We welcome both group and individual applications. Residents shop and cook for themselves.

Chulitna Lodge Wilderness Retreat seeks to provide the time, space, clarity and facilities for all forms of creative professionals or enthusiastic hobbyists to make and meditate. From visual artists, to writers, to scientific researchers, music, dance and more we encourage all to apply for our various programs. 

Chulitna Lodge is 180 miles from the nearest road, with fly-in access only; a historical landmark on the shores of Lake Clark National Park. We facilitate this creative residency program for all to gather and learn in this pristine setting. 

Our Mission: to share a love for responsible exploration of our worlds most remote locations, with the intent of passing forward the value of maintaining such places wild, and to personally reap the benefits of life a world apart. 

Open AIR is a place-based Artist-in-Residence program that connects artists from all disciplines and origins with culturally, historically, and ecologically significant locations through collaborative partnerships in Montana.

With innovative opportunities available in places such as remote wilderness areas to historically significant sites closer to town, artists can draw inspiration from a regional community dedicated to preserving place, environment, and the arts.

In 2024 Open AIR has four sessions: Spring, Summer, Summer II, and Fall. We have residencies at 13 different sites in Montana, including; Selway Bitterroot Frank Church Wilderness; Flathead Lake Biological Station, Polson; Travelers' Rest State Park, Lolo; Butte, MT; Philipsburg, MT; Hamilton, MT; Clark Fork Coalition, Anaconda, MT In Missoula, Open AIR has residency sites at the Missoula Public Library, Missoula Butterfly House & Insectarium, Garden City Harvest, Moon-Randolph Homestead, Home ReSource, and Montana Natural History Center. 

Each residency provides a unique opportunity for artists to be embedded in a site that allows the artist to engage with place, and the communities and resources associated with each site. The residency is free, and housing and a modest stipend are provided. Artists are responsible for transportation and food.

Pedantic Arts Residency brings together an artist, a curator, and a writer under one roof for a collaborative arts experience. It is a unique invitation to open greater and more cross-disciplinary dialogue within the arts by re-embracing the significant impact that education, study, and structured contemplation can have on artistic output. It is focused on fostering artistic connections rather than production.

Running for a period of 4 weeks, participants will be immersed in the creative communities of Pittsburgh. Pedantic is located in one of the city’s largest and most bustling art hubs. The assets of this creative network will be offered as a meaningful point of influence for residents, while providing them with ample opportunities to advance their practices and share their talents and perspectives.

Pedantic will entail weekly programming including but not limited to lectures, dinners, studio visits, and museum tours. Many of these will be open to members of the larger public or specific invited guests, while others will be reserved as special opportunities just for the cohort. Residents will also have the unique opportunity to partner and collaborate with local organizations and professionals. Each resident will be assigned to a Pittsburgh-based guide working in a similar field who will help connect them to activities, resources, and contacts.

The residency can result in a myriad of outcomes, whether immediate or over time through the continued percolation of ideas.

Every year during the second weekend in July, Watershed welcomes guests to campus for our annual ceramics picnic, Salad Days. Prior to the event, the annual Salad Days Artist creates hundreds of plates for the celebration. On Salad Days, guests select their favorite handmade plate to take home. Many attendees return year after year to collect new plates. The event also includes a pottery sale, artist demonstrations, campus tours, delicious food, and much more! 

Watershed selects a Salad Days Artist annually to create plates or shallow bowls for the following year’s Salad Days. The Salad Days Artist spends seven months at Watershed – from September to April – producing 500 plates for the following summer’s Salad Days. The Artist is also commissioned to create approximately thirty small functional or decorative pieces for Watershed’s sustained giving donors and a t-shirt design for the summer. 

The residency runs on campus during Watershed’s quieter programming season. While the Artist works closely with studio staff to fine-tune their plate design and making process, much of the work is completed independently. Strong self-management skills and comfort working independently in a rural area are essential.

The Popps Packing residency program was born in 2012 and has grown into a robust international AIR that has welcomed over 100 artists into our unique arts and community ecosystem. Popps Packing is a 4,500 Sq/ft former meat packing plant on the Hamtramck/Detroit border, a densely populated, diverse, working class community.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are seeking artists with a serious studio practice who can make the most of the facilities, space, and time that Popps Packing offers. Artists must be able to live/work alongside other artists

Duration: 1-3 months

• The space accommodates 2 resident artists at one time
• Accommodation: Resident artists will be provided with a private bedroom within a 2 bedroom loft-style studio. In this communal living arrangement, you will have access to shared kitchen, bathroom, and studio spaces. Please note that the Popps Residency functions as a studio space 1st and may not offer the cozy comforts of a home atmosphere. The private bedrooms are comfortable and well-maintained, but the overall ambiance is that of a concrete loft-style warehouse.
• Cost: $850-$1000/ Month utilities included payment for the full residency term can be paid upfront or on the 1st of each month if staying for multiple months. 

Popps Packing is an active space. It is, at its core a communal and familial environment that fosters a sense of community among resident artists and neighbors. 

Osage Arts Community is a residency program that provides temporary time, space, and support for the creation of new work in a retreat format. These creative residencies are generally anywhere from one week to one year but average around six months. OAC serves creative people of all kinds – visual artists, video artists, composers, textile artists, ceramicists, poets, fiction and nonfiction writers.

OAC is located on a 160-acre farm in an isolated rural mountainside setting in Central Missouri bordered by ¾ of a mile of the Gasconade River. We provide a solitary retreat to those working alone, as well as welcoming collaborative teams, offering a living space and a country environment, in addition to workspace, to emerging and mid-career artists.

We are committed to a unified belief in the creative process, and we support this by offering dedicated time and space for the creation of new work.”
