Craigardan seeks a dynamic new Farm Store + Food Access Programs Manager to join our team as we continue to build our beautiful new campus on Craigardan’s 320 acre site in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains.

This is a year-round, full-time position with room for growth that allows for creative problem-solving, innovation, and exploration in a supportive, inclusive environment. The Farm Store on Craigardan’s Community Farm is a vibrant, exciting, and direct interface with the public. We work closely with local food producers and farmers to support our regional food system and help feed our neighbors.

THE POSITION

As an integral member of Craigardan’s team, the Farm Store + Food Access Programs Manager must work closely with staff in all areas of the organization. With the direction and close collaboration of the Executive Director, the FSPM will oversee two main areas:

  • Farm Store Management (75%)
    • Conduct weekly ordering for all store and program needs and oversee distribution between campus locations and programs
    • Stock, organize, and maintain the Farm Store
    • Collaborate with the farm team on incoming seasonal products and produce
    • Work to reduce store, farm, and program food waste
    • Manage sales, inventory, vendor information, and general record-keeping
    • Manage store billing and invoices
    • Ensure sales tax compliance
    • Ensure SNAP/EBT programs and DOH/ Ag and Markets compliance
    • Effectively and positively talk about Craigardan and its programs with customers, volunteers, and the local public
    • Manage all communications for the Farm Store including email marketing, social media, and other platforms
  • Food Access Program Management (25%)
    • Manage Craigardan’s food access programs including our Free Food Fridge, Egg Share Program, and Community Garden Program
    • Manage Craigardan’s food access partnerships with organizations and initiatives including Essex County WIC, Well Fed Collaborative, Adirondack Food System Network, Wellness RX, Double Up Food Bucks, local schools, and others
    • Assist with light farm and garden chores and tasks as needed
    • Promote food education from field to fork to help activate the farm, the store, and our new culinary arts facilities.
    • Work with summer resident interns on farm and food access initiatives
    • Improve Craigardan’s work within the food system including: production, storage, distribution, access, and waste

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • At least 2 years of related experience
  • Nonprofit, food system, or farming experience

Applicants must have a strong affinity for Craigardan’s mission and work, live in or be willing to relocate to the Adirondacks, and thrive in a place-based environment — this position is not a remote or hybrid position.

Physical Requirements:

Craigardan’s campus is a working farm on a mountainside. Candidates must be able to walk throughout the property, sit for extended periods of time, lift and bend to stock shelves, and carry 40 lbs. 

 

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS

Full-time, 40 hour-per-week position 

This position provides training and offers room for growth for the right candidate

Starting salary $45,000-$50,000 commensurate with skills and experience
