LMCC’s residency programs are a core part of our commitment to ensuring artists have free, collaborative space for creative development and production. In this spirit, LMCC’s 2025 Arts Center Residency offers an eight-month studio-based residency to artists and creative practitioners who are working in any discipline and interested in engaging in a long-term residency focused on experimentation, ongoing development, and dialogue with fellow residents. LMCC welcomes applications from artists and creative practitioners whose practice is self-directed and process-based, and who would benefit from the resources that LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island has to offer as an incubator for research and interdisciplinary exchange.
Recognizing the need for a shared future that creatively addresses climate change, and considering the Arts Center at Governors Island’s unique location at the heart of the New York Harbor; the 2025 Arts Center Residency welcomes applications from artists and creative practitioners whose work is concerned with the broader themes of climate justice, the environment, sustainability and urban ecology. Artists are invited to explore these thematic anchors, using Governors Island as a site for exploration, collaboration and experimentation. Applicants may choose to address these themes explicitly or expand on how their practice and/or projects are relevant.
The 2025 Arts Center Residency will take place in open plan studios at LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island from March 3 - October 31, 2025.
LMCC is committed to assembling cohorts of artists that collectively reflect the cultural and creative diversity of the field including artists of diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, sexual identities, genders, ages, physical abilities, and artistic genres and forms. Artists whose backgrounds include Black, Indigenous, and immigrant identities, as well as artists with disabilities, are strongly encouraged to apply.
