Casa Hechale’s International Artist Residency is a residential platform for theatre, performance, and new work in Mexico City. Designed for performing artists, it welcomes individuals, duos, and collaborations working across acting, directing, playwriting, dramaturgy, translation, dance, movement, sound, and interdisciplinary performance.
Selected artists spend two or four weeks researching, writing, rehearsing, experimenting, or advancing a project. The residency is process-centered: no finished production or public outcome is required. Residents live and work under one roof, with accommodation, scheduled rehearsal and creation space, and the option to request Casa Hechale’s Black Box Theatre, subject to availability and prior agreement.
Each residency begins with orientation and includes a Community Manager, a project conversation with the creative team, and an advisory session offering feedback, dramaturgical exchange, mentoring, or professional dialogue. Residents may join performances, readings, workshops, talks, salons, and community gatherings while retaining independence. Each cycle includes an informal Open House, and relevant introductions may be arranged with artists and cultural organizations across Mexico City.
Open worldwide and operating in English and Spanish, the program fosters exchange among Mexican, Chicano, U.S., Latin American, Spanish, European, and international artists. Limited partial scholarships are available for four-week residents.
