Sabbatical opportunity - Donkeys and nature ...

Sabbaticals are most often associated with academics at certain points in your career. A sabbatical style residency is also available for those who have a large project that needs particular focus away from the distracting routines of regular life. Artists, Graphic Designers, Writers, and others who might blend nature with your professional focus should consider this as a nurturing and beneficial place.

Sabbatical style residency is available for 1 - 4 months in the cat camphaus with a private furnished room and your own bathroom.

Start planning today for 2025 or 2026!

  • Are you at the point to be planning for your first or second sabbatical and writing your proposal?
  • Are you trying to figure out a career reboot, extra months to sink into your work post graduation before a job search, or other unique moments in life that will require that disconnect from the regular world?
  • Are you needing dedicated time to revise your art or design portfolio? Maybe you need a mentor in the process or even someone with curriculum and teaching experience to bounce your ideas with?

Who is eligible?

  • An approved or planning proposal for sabbatical (any discipline that needs the space to write, get out into this specific natural environment, and/or the space to work - possibly with natural materials found on site, upcycled materials waiting for your inspired project, or muses like the donkeys and chickens)
  • A project that is in depth and requires longer work time - such as a novel, multiple piece exhibit, revamping a portfolio
  • Any stage of career and path - from recent graduates to those ready to sink into the passion project that keeps getting put on the back burner

Applications accepted on a rolling basis and an interview will be arranged if proposal indicates it will be a good fit.

NATURE BENEFITS?

Venture on the land and learn to go slow while you listen to the sounds of nature. Spend time on our river frontage as the water will be crisp and the landscape ever changing or take a short drive to the numerous natural features in the area on the Natchez Trace Parkway or local state parks. Want to channel your inner child with star-gazing or hanging out with the donkeys, then this may just be the residency for you.

Additional Eligibility Information

Let your creativity FLOW LIKE THE BUFFALO river on the edge of our acreage. Applicants with nature as their muse, inspiration, or collaborator will receive priority.

Individuals must be able to let the normal world and lifestyle go during your stay and it is encouraged that you utilize the time and access to the benefits of being away from contemporary society. If you cannot go a day without your favorite coffee shop visit, have fast food on the brain, or need lots of people around to function, this is not the place for you. Are you ready to disconnect from a social media addiction or doom-scrolling and insomnia issues?

Be prepared for a different sense of time here and your project goals may actually go faster because you don't have your normal life distractions. Please make sure to review the FAQ section and the general policies about this place.
