Salt Road Studio Residency is a fully funded international artist residency located in Akō, Japan, a historic coastal city along the Seto Inland Sea. Designed for contemporary visual artists, the residency provides time, space, and financial support to develop new work while engaging with Japanese culture, community, and landscape.
Each year, only three artists are selected for a three-week residency experience. The program includes round-trip airfare, accommodations, studio space, and a stipend, allowing participants to focus entirely on their creative practice. Artists live and work together in a collaborative environment that encourages experimentation, dialogue, and cross-cultural exchange.
Founded by artist and curator Gina Keatley, Salt Road Studio connects creative communities between Japan and New York City while supporting emerging and established artists from around the world. The residency welcomes painters, sculptors, mixed-media artists, photographers, and interdisciplinary practitioners seeking an immersive international art residency experience.
Through meaningful cultural engagement and dedicated studio time, Salt Road Studio Residency aims to foster artistic growth, global connections, and lasting creative impact.
