Ceramics Residency at ESSA
The Eureka Springs School of the arts is looking for practicing ceramics artists who are seeking focused time to refine their skills, create work and/or explore new avenues within their medium.
The 2024 ESSA ceramics residency will span approximately 6 weeks from May 1, 2024, through June 15, 2024. Up to two participants will be selected. The deadline for submissions in February 15, 2024 by 5 pm (CST).
This is an opportunity to be inspired by the incredible natural beauty and unique culture of the Ozark Mountains. ESSA is located on an idyllic forested campus 5 miles west of the renowned artist community of Eureka Springs, and within an hour drive of the major cultural institutions of Northwest Arkansas, such as Crystal bridges, The Momentary, the Walton Arts Center, etc. The ESSA campus offers well equipped studios and facilities and comfortable private lodging for our artists in residence, tucked away from the distractions of the outside world.
Selected residents are provided access to ESSA studios, on-campus lodging, an opportunity (not required) to sell their work at a closing reception, and other benefits.

- Canvas-covered worktable and wedging boards
- Plaster wedging table
- Utility sink with clay trap
- Large slab roller
- Sculpture stands
- Scales
- Throwing wheels, batts and Giffin Grips
- Four Kilns: larger kiln inner dimensions 22 x 20 inches, medium kiln inner dimensions 17 x 21 inches, smaller kiln inner dimensions 13 x 15 inches, Saggar/ Raku kiln inner dimensions 19 x 17 inches
- Banding wheels
- Shelves for works in progress, drying, etc.
- Rolling pins
- Various molds for draping/slumping
- Numerous hand tools
- Brushes and sponges both large and small
- Various texturing sheets, small molds and stamps
- Assorted commercial glazes (Amaco, Duncan, Stroke and Coat, and more)
- The studio is located at the front of the ESSA campus and a 5-minute walk from on-campus housing and provides both indoor and covered outdoor work spaces.
