Virtual Event
Join us for an important conversation about how our residency network can support artists who are new to the United States, arriving through displacement, exile, asylum seeking, or resettlement.
In 2025, NY-based CEC ArtsLink brought together artists, funders, resettlement agencies, and arts organizations to strategize, connect, and identify gaps in support systems. The question we will consider now is how and to what extent artist residency programs might help address some of these gaps. Although we know the artist residency field is diverse and multifaceted, are there ways, through increased awareness and coordination, we might provide meaningful resources and wayfinding for newly-arrived artists?
We would love to hear whether these are conversations you have been having in your own program, or among peers, and to offer avenues for continued engagement with these and related topics.
This special presentation and panel discussion is co-hosted by Simon Dove, Executive Director, CEC ArtsLink.
We will hear from NY-based Burmese artist, Bart Was Not Here on the needs and issues artists currently face.
Panelists will include:
- Laura Kraftowitz, Founding Executive Director, City of Asylum/Detroit
- Rachel Switlick, Artist Liaison and Advocate, SHIM:NYC
- Alison Russo, Artists Protection Fund [IIE].
