ACA PRESENTS | 2022 Equitable Capacity Workshop Series

ACA Staff
March 30, 2022

Join Artist Communities Alliance and our brilliant faculty of artists and arts leaders for Strengthening Your Equitable Capacity, a values-driven workshop series designed to support artist-centered experiences.

This professional development opportunity will help artist residency staff and leadership assess and strengthen all elements of their residency program, with a focus on Identity, Program Design, Stewardship, Resource Development and Operational Excellence, the key areas outlined in ACA’s Five Pillars of a Healthy Residency Framework Rubric*, developed by Lisa Funderburke Hoffman.

Equitable Capacity, a concept coined by ACA’s Executive Director Lisa Funderburke Hoffman in 2020, refers to the strengthening of an organization’s “muscle” to be equitable in policies, practices, and processes. Each three-hour intensive includes nuts-and-bolts presentations from guest faculty and ACA staff, interactive exercises and small-group discussion and networking.

This series will help you:

  • Sustain artist-centered experiences
  • Refine your welcome and onboarding processes for artists
  • Manage your organization’s operations
  • Develop an equitable engagement strategy with your stakeholders and audiences
  • And more!

*Five Pillars of a Healthy Residency Framework Rubric developed by the Artist Communities Alliance design team: Lisa Funderburke Hoffman, Executive Director; Edwige Charlot, Director of Community Learning; and Kate Strater Hogan; with generous support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Crafting Thoughtful Artist Residency Experiences

Wednesday, April 27, 2022 | 1:00pm - 4:00pm ET

What do artists need to have successful residencies and how can thoughtful preparation set up residencies for success?

In this workshop, based on the Thoughtful Invitation Framework developed by Lisa Funderburke Hoffman, we’ll consider proactive engagement frameworks to develop clear communication and expectations, provide inclusive access to artists, and respond when things don’t go as planned.

You’ll leave with the tools needed to develop your own artist-centered approach to community engagement, orientation, and collaborative problem-solving.

Whether you just launched your first call or are exploring ways to strengthen your process, this workshop will examine important aspects of access in your application and selection process and provide you with new tools to help support artists.
