Writers & Artists Residency in San Miguel de Allende

The invitation for our Open Residency 2024 is extended to artists and creatives in the following plastic arts; visual arts, literature, performing arts, digital arts, and cinematography.  Residencies have a minimum stay of two weeks and may begin preferably on Sunday. 

Location and facilities

The residence is located in the historic town of Atotonilco, 20 minutes from the center of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, in central Mexico.

During their stay, residents may or may not have other artists living on campus, depending on selected time of residency. Residents will be able to participate in exhibitions, presentations, workshops, open studios and other activities organized periodically by Camino Al Arte.

Additional Eligibility Information

Deadline for applications, Fall Session: July 15, 2024. The selection process is carried out by a group of representatives of the local arts community. Please send the following documents in PDF to info@caminoalarte.org:

  • Brief introduction letter or email
  • Updated CV
  • Portfolio, in PDF format, no more than 10 pages, including brief descriptions of your projects. Music, video or digital art files will be submitted through GoogleDrive or Dropbox. If portfolio exists on a website, providing a link to it is sufficient.
  • Brief proposal of a workshop or community activity that you would like to lead.

Fee Details

Residency fee is payable with credit card, bank deposit or wire. Fees give residents access to:

  • Privacy and tranquility in a natural environment, surrounded by mesquite trees 
  • A 40m2 well-lit studio for private use
  • Introductions with local arts leaders and ad hoc curatorial support
  • Private bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette
  • Shared dining room, reading room and laundry
  • Daily breakfast, lunch subsidy and basic food provisions
  • Access to workshop and print shop, plus alliance with large metal and woodworking shops
  • Use of shared vehicle (gasoline not included)
  • Policy for visitors, children and/or accompanying pets
  • Quick access to historical, recreational and religious facilities
