Since 1988, ICA LA’s program has remained dedicated to celebrating emerging, overlooked, and marginalized voices in contemporary art. Artists and their work are integral to ICA LA’s mission, and have continuously played a guiding role in shaping our future as an institution, not only as the focus of our program, but also as vital participants in museum leadership at the levels of the Board of Directors, Artist Advisory Council, and across museum staff. As a non-collecting contemporary art museum, we continually look for new and innovative ways to support living artists in addition to our exhibitions and public programs.
Honoring our institutional history as an incubator for new ideas, and affirming the Los Angeles Arts District as a thriving cultural capital with artists at the center, ICA LA launched an Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program that will provide artists with dedicated studio spaces in DTLA. The launch of this program will not only ensure that artists have opportunities to create work but will also be designed as a residency embedded into the institution, inviting artists to gain access to our building, resources, staff, and community partners.
